What is the use of orifice ?

HI Mukunda. Thank you for your question and I apologize that I missed it originally. The orifice is the section of the txv which contains an opening of specific size and which the refrigerant must pass through to leave the txv and enter the evaporator. . The end of the valve pin in the txv will completely close off the orifice when the txv is closed and when the txv opens, the valve pin will back out of the orifice allowing refrigerant to pass through it. When more refrigerant is required, the valve pin backs out even more. The capacity of the txv is determined by the size of the orifice so a txv with a higher capacity will have a larger orifice opening. Aside from capacity control, the orifice is also responsible for the pressure drop that occurs across the txv. This is due to the expansion of the refrigerant passing through the small orifice into the much larger volume exiting the txv. The pressure drop of the refrigerant also produces a temperature drop as the refrigerant leaving the orifice is now at saturation, the so the refrigerant will now be at the temperature required for it to evaporate in the evaporator.
