This game had so many fascinating and unique game mechanics. The territory control, the 3 lives reincarnation system (a little like tag-teams in fighting games), the ankhs, the rotatable shields with sector-specific damage, the limb damage, the really bizarre weapons. Very cool; I hope someone can take these ideas into a spiritual successor. Really weird and interesting aesthetic and worldbuilding, too!

I’ve been looking for this game for 20 years ! I remember it as a demo on a PC Gamer magazine. I thought I just imagined it lol

A 20Mb game that is still better than 90% of what is available today. Thanks for a trip down memory lane, I d/loaded it but no sound or ability to set a controller instead of keyboard...

For some reason this game was on my school computers. No one played it cuz no one knew how to play it but for some reason I became a little obsessed with figuring out how this game worked. With some trial and error and talking to the 2 students and 1 teacher who actually had an idea how it worked I managed to get pretty good at it. I never could beat any mission number over 10 tho.

I also have a weird fascination with it. My dad played it years ago when I was fairly young and I'd just watch him. If you could explain some of the basics that'd be really awesome. I'd love to go back and play it.

@@dotapazappy the game centers on the idea of setting towers around the map to control areas. You win once you control more than half the map for a few minutes. Use "t" to place a towers while searching for enemy towers to destroy. You have three lives and at the start of the game you can choose one of three characters for each life, Horus, Anubis, or Skhemet. Horus is defensive and focuses on putting bombs and traps around your towers to defend them and can also fly (though I never figured out how). Anubis I believe is supposed to be the best at destroying enemy towers. Skhemet is the best for combat. If you use all your lives you enter the "spirit world" where you are basically spectating till the end of the game. At the start of the game you press the letters under the "menu" box at the bottom of the screen to summon modules that will give you abilities based on the character you chose and 1-6 will activate these abilities. There are also modules that spawn around the game. I think "shift" was to pick up the modules. You can also press "x" (I think it was x but not sure) to summon a sarcophagus that will heal you if you get damaged. Once the game starts you have a grace period where you can't get damaged. Once the grace period is over press "F7" to summon a shield. That is the basics of the game. Beyond that just control as much territory as you can.

@@starcetus Wow, that's a lot more than I expected to hear ! I remember some weird oddities like how you can find an item called combo which combines longshot and rapid fire(I think) - I totally forgot there was a way to heal as well. I remember there was a time when I watched my dad play enough I think I knew how to fly as horus but I've long since forgot now. Is there any advantage to placing multiple towers in one area or is it more about spreading them out to cover a larger area? also unrelated note but I don't suppose you know any places to download and play this game still. I found a facebook group with a download for a multiplayer client I got to work but it sadly has no sound. For someone like me who just wants to revisit this strange part of their childhood memories the sound is an important part ! It's just not the same without hearing that "YEAH WAH WAH WAH"

My family had the Trial version we kept a score list xD I always start as Horus and spam mines everywhere then move on to the others

Do you remember the bouncer mine meta? With Horus your fly in, drop a ton of bouncer mines at someone’s feet, shoot them to begin the detonation, and then fly up and away from danger before they exploded, leaving the Anubis or Shekmet player to their doom.
