Hi Alex a question to ask you and the met office is it true I’ve heard a thing that can help the uk get a run of cold winters similar to what we had back in 08 to 13 is being at solar minimum or coming out of it and also hale years with the moon also weak La Niña to is that true. I know there’s lots of other factors to. Great update as always.

Sounds ridiculous, but so often the weather in England is often the opposite to Perth and SW Australia. To the day. Here we've had a very dry September, and literally on Wednesday, as it dries up in England, we're getting abnormally wet and windy weather. This happens bizarrely often. And beyond just having opposite seasons.

Excellent explanation of the mechanics of Storm Helene. Brilliant graphics too. How significant would tidal ranges contribute to the storm surge?

I've said it before and will say it again, When are you going to do a rock band? Alex and a Met Heads, a Thrash metal band. Songs like Thunder, Polar, Lows and highs the rock ballard, The calm before the storm, starts off slow and ends up smashing your instruments lol.

Another brilliant deep-dive, thank you. I'm loving the science. As sea surface temperatures are so important, would you be able to look at a deep dive regarding how the SST's thermodynamically affect things like the NAO for example and the knock-on effect on the atmosphere? Just a thought, thank you.

Fabulous deep dive thanks for that. I do have a question about the weather app on my iPhone, so why is it that we can't get the same weather map as you show on your broadcast, I can olny change between rainfall, cloud cover and serface pressure ( video ) I would love to be able to get wind, temperature, satellite, thunder storms, humidity, also gases like S02, C02, aerosols, and so on.

"I know it's October". What a crass statement.! Often warmer than April and it makes a heck of a difference whether early or late in the month and often blessed with a St Luke's mini-summer.
