Күн бұрын

This is a Met Office UK Weather forecast looking at Storm Isha, hitting the UK between Sunday 21/01/2024 and Monday 22/01/2024.
A dramatic change in the weather is expected this weekend as the jet stream powers up and sends a deep low to the UK by the end of Sunday. This low has been named Storm Isha by the Met Office because of the risk of disruptive and damaging wind gusts in places. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Aidan McGivern.

I know many have moaned about the cold, but there is something beautiful about clear, crisp winter days. I did notice some warmth coming back to the sun when it's on the face.

Totally agree, crisp days are perfect when added to a long walk across the Brecon Beacons with sandwiches and a flask of coffee, possibly a small flask of Rum too.

I'd say the weather's been rather boring here in South Wales for many years the last great Thunderstorm we had was in early 2000's I remember it lasted for hours, we were initially going to have potentially upto 40cms of Snow last week but it passed under us. We did experience the heatwave in 2022 though.

Can someone from the met office clarify… These wind warning graphics oddly seem to exclude the Isle of Man. Is that because the island is not part of the met office area of responsibility or will the island be fortunate in missing the windiest weather?
@davidmorton8332

It's because the Isle of Man isn't part of the UK and therefore not a Met Office responsibility.

Does giving the storms names make having your home flooded or the roof ripped off any more or less painful.
@metoffice

Of course not. However, naming storms makes more people aware of severe weather ahead of time so they can try and protect themselves and their properties as much as possible.

@Mykst
@Mykst 9 ай бұрын
@@GaryV-p3h It's nothing to do with stupidity. The fact is that if these storms were not made aware to the public then they're simply not going to know or expect the impacts associated with them. Technology is at a point now where we can have these much better advanced warning systems in place to much better prepare not just the general public but the emergency services who rely heavily on these forecasts too.

Why do you name the tail end of Atlantic storms now? Until recently it was just reported as the tail end of an Atlantic storm and it’s going to be wet and windy for a bit.
@callumglass
@callumglass 9 ай бұрын
No, no they weren't. Naming storms were heavily in 2015. 9 years ago... Ofcourse we can get a "tail end Atlantic storm hitting" and it'll still be called that, until it meets certain criteria of the "risk matrix" of where it'll hit. Pretty standard and readily available information, for anyone actually wanting to learn.

It’s between south east and Scotland. The geographical extremes generally give a overall impression of the weather from far north to far south. Lancashire is not mentioned for the same reasons that other nearby counties are not mentioned.

Ridiculous naming every bit of bad weather, used to just have a storm, now it has to have a name. I'm assuming the people in the met office have got nothing better to do. Maybe concentrate on getting the weather forecast right, instead of covering every possibility
