My Grandma having served in the WRNS during WW2, used to listen to the Shipping Forecast every night til 2 days before she died at age 85. We played ‘Sailing By’ at her funeral. Still missing you Grandma ❤.

As a small boat sailor for 40 years. Six Atlantic crossings on a 33 foot boat and always relieved to hear the BBC Shipping forecast. Thank you x

I have spent a large part of my life listening to the Shipping Forcast. It is strange, reassuring, and a great sleep aid.

My Dad had a boat for fishing and pleasure and I remember listening to the shipping forecast from an early age. I still listen to it to this day, and love it.

When I set of a daft o' clock, the pleasure in knowing it's on its way is a good feeling as you call out the areas just before the announcer, it's beauty is in its rhythm as you imagine all these places in your minds eye....it's perfection.

I listen to it to go to sleep. It’s amazing.

I am always puzzled by these KZbin dislikes - how's it possible to dislike a video of less than ten minutes on the history of shipping forecast?🤔

Tiny minds, I imagine.

Automated interaction. Regularly I come across comments with several replies and there aren't any when you click on them. I'm sure KZbin adds interaction to try and draw in interaction.

Wonder what the shipping for cast was for Boxing Day 1999 I think. I rem my barometer in Glasgow going off the scale and when I measured it it was around 946millibars. I still listen to the shipping forecast here in Australia via R4 google home

Because they only have five minutes in which to deliver the forecast every single word has a meaning, if I can remember them - imminent = within the next 6 hours, soon = within 6 to 12 hours, later = more than 12 hours. I found meteorology one of the really fascinating parts of during my Merchant Navy training.

There's a word limit as well. It's really limited and designed to get as much information across in as little data as possible.

The question I wanted answered is “How long has the shipping forecast been broadcast on the radio?”. And a lot of other questions about the radio broadcasts, like did they discontinue them during WW2? for example. Was it always on radio 4? In cases where the programming is split, do they ensure that it is available on LW? And so on. So many unanswered questions!!

You know you're on a shipping forecast video when people complain about a theatrical score played moderately in the background.

Some people have auditory issues trying to differentiate between the words and the loud music. Please don’t judge.
