If they ever got rid of the damn on billy chinook this fishery would be even more epic. Kokanee would return to ocean and become sockeye again. Bull trout could migrate. Steelhead would return to original spawning grounds etc.

It was a memory much like this one with my dad on the Metolious 20 years ago that had me hooked on fly fishing at a young age. Years later when my dad died there was no doubt this is where he wanted his ashes spread. I make plenty of trips back here every year and have made my own fishing memories now that I hope to share and pass down to my future son one day. Good on you, sir.

Buried Hook really? I would have thought you were drifting meat flies. Headed up on Friday. Never caught a bull. Fingers crossed

Nice (actually incredibly nice) fish but really, you should have had that guy in a net much earlier. Someone could/should have helped you with a net. Chances are you exhausted that fish so much so that recovering from the fight left it with so much lactic acid in its system that it may well have died upon release. But yes, you really got into a trophy fish there. I fish the Metolius fairly often and I've certainly never hooked any kind of trout that size. Congrats.

The fish seemed plenty lively to me and it didn't spend any unnecessary time out of the water from netting or photos. Nice fish and great handling in my opinion, given the options.

Agree, I was thinking when are you going to get off that log? for about 5 minutes!
@QwertySounds5 жыл бұрын
This is the truth here. I am glad the guy caught a nice fish, but in a river known for its conservation, that fish was likely dead in an hour or so. To all viewing this and you MUST use a net with rubber netting as quickly as possible to give these beautiful creatures the best chance at survival, and spawning other fish.
@paulwall45995 жыл бұрын
Nope. You might as well have kept it. That fish is dead now

Nice fish..its a shame you exhausted it so much you killed it. Next time be prepared and have some respect for the fish and land it

That’s a load of Fudd lore. That doesn’t usually kill the fish , but whining Karens like you heard someone say it once and latched onto it for yet another thing to be offended by. Virtue signaling much?😂

Great dialog. "Are these spawing grounds?" "Yes, there are fish spawning here right now." "This is a bull trout. This is just about one of the most endangered fish in the state." Fucking cherry-picking redd nymphers.
@savycenter2 жыл бұрын
The metolius is one of the only fisheries where you can legally and morally pursue bulls. They are critically endangered in much of their range but not so much in this location. Don’t go for him if you don’t know your own shit.
@brookmelee59832 жыл бұрын
@@savycenter Pursuing ANY fish on spawning redds is unethical. It's tantamount to poaching. It ain't about the species, bud. Don't thank me for the lesson, I'm happy to educate you on the matter.
@savycenter2 жыл бұрын
@@brookmelee5983 Bulls spawn in fall, dude. This guy is referencing possible spawning rainbows in the met - but he’s clearly not fishing for them. Spawning season doesn’t mean you just can’t fish at all, it means you have to fish responsibly and be wary of your surroundings - this guy isn’t trampling any redds or fishing them or even fishing for the species that’s spawning.
@brookmelee59832 жыл бұрын
@@savycenter AGAIN - it's not about the species. Don't cast on redds of any kind, broski. Simple. Class dismissed.
@savycenter2 жыл бұрын
@@brookmelee5983 Dude, he’s clearly not fishing the ACTUAL redds, he’s saying that there ARE spawning fish in the river. I mainly fish the met and know this exact spot. Unlikely there is any redds in there. And even if there was, he’s NOT fishing them - the fish spawning there would not be affected by this type of fishing unless snagged. Redds and spawners are super vital to protect and spread awareness on but don’t do so by spewing information wrongly at people who aren’t doing anything wrong.
@hovertrout1 Жыл бұрын
Targeting spawning bulls is taboo. I will give kudos for not bringing it out of the water though but what’s the purpose of hooking into these majestic endangered sensitive species other than the human ego?
