I saw this two weeks ago. My first time ever at the Met, first row of the balcony. Thrilling!

Great singing! Salsi sounds better in Rigoletto than in other roles I've heard, in really good vocal shape, and Morley is always adorable and incredibly reliable and relaxed technically, her singing always pouring effortlessly and without anything forced or artificially darkened or plushed, she just trusts her instrument and projects the voice with vibrant and clear tone, in addition to pure, unlabored and refined musicality. The two really shone in this duet

Who is the conductor? I have never understood why conductors take this so slow. Have they never heard the BRILLIANT Tullio Serafin's 1955 La Scala recording with Callas and Gobbi? It is like the orchestra's union rep is telling him to wrap it up and the result is THRILLING and TERRIFYING! The Met does not have one conductot who is qualified for Verdi. Givea this baritone a cough drop, his voice is so DRY! Erin Morley sounds good here (good line and clear sound) I just orefer a bigger voiced Gilda for the post seduction. Especially in the storm scene where pip squeak soubrettes might as well go home for the evening 😂

@@BellaFirenze The Serafin is slower! It’s just that there is more accelerando in the coda.

The use of the term soubrette here is both inaccurate and insulting. As for “the baritone,” the experienced listener would know that the Met does not know how to record large voices. His voice is rich in the house.

Going from Kelsey’s visceral performance to Salsi’s rather static presentation was hard to watch. Kelsey paced the stage like a caged tiger while channeling all of Rigoletto’s anguish and fury into an emotional hurricane that was truly enthralling to witness. Salsi just kind of stands there and sings his song to the audience.

I’ll take a stiff performance any day over bad singing from Kelsey. I know you gotta be an actor as well but good singing is the priority
@kilianblum816114 күн бұрын
@@matthornstein I agree that Salsi’s voice is better. But an opera is not a concert. The Met is neither Carnegie nor the Geffen Hall. The priority is to take me on an emotional journey. But I felt nothing watching Salsi, so to me he failed that assignment.

Agreed, I’ll take someone who can actually sing over whatever horrific noises alternating with under sung crooning that Quinn Kelsey and the Met try to pass off as “Bel Canto”
@FanOFGodN119 күн бұрын
He was totally fine to watch. But more importantly his voice is much more suitable for this repertoire than Kelsey's. Wish his sound was just a little bigger, at least for the Met stage and would of been great.

Yeah but I enjoyed it more than I disliked it. I was grateful to hear Salsi’s performance and lucked out to hear Zach Borichevsky as the Duke 😅
