Just beyond the Ogilvie Transportation Platforms, and just off to the right of the Tracks, lies Lake Street Tower! I was blessed way back in the late 1990s to have spent 2 Days taking photos of Trains in there courtesy of my Wife's Cousin (he is deceased now) who worked for Metra/Union Pacific. Back then, all of the Track Switches that you see with what it seems like an ENDLESS LANDSCAPE of Double Slip Switches and other Switches were all controlled using Pistol Grip Levers, and there was a HUGE Board showing every location that there were Switches! Union Pacific hadn't cut over into doing it by Computer at that time...but it was soon to be. They may still use the Pistol Grips up there! Loved every minute that weekend! :)

Outside of the New York area commuter railroads - which are truly in a league of their own as far as ridership volume and service frequency are concerned - no U.S. railroad sees more heavy-duty passenger commuting traffic at peak times than Metra. This video attests to that!!!

It seems that Metra has all the outbound trains set up with locomotives in the lead, with the inbound trains led by cab cars. Do you know why they have made that choice?

So when passengers are walking to their train at the downtown stations (CUS, LaSalle, OTC) they don't have to walk through the fumes of the engines.

I'm a Model Railroader , i have in HO Scale those Metra Coaches and they light up, i also have a Beautiful Metra Locomotive in the Rock Island Paint Scheme.
