I think the roles for a meaningful metric/dashboard is well explained and most people understand the importance of these sort of measurements. However, it would be more helpful if you can elaborate a bit on what should be measure (aka what these metrics/parameters are)? Identifying these metrics is difficult. These metrics vary from industry to industry. E.g. metrics for B2B is significantly different from metrics for B2C (SaaS metrics are well known however). What I found most difficult is how to define meaningful metrics for B2B enterprise business where all business sales and processes are so rigid and formulated; and all sales requires formal RFPs, negotiation cycles are typically long (and typically requiring multiple rounds of negotiations for a sales). How do I articulate a set of metrics to gauge my startup performance/progress in this enterprise B2B environment? Hardly anyone talk about this market segment for startups & even less to mention about the corresponding metrics for startups targeting this market segment. Would be great if you can share your experience in this area in the near future.
