They are all over the place in north metro Indianapolis.

I was wondering if there were any masts used on suburban Detroit at all. To me, it's always better than having them hanging on wires, because that makes the area look poorer.

Agreed. The more expensive mast arms look a lot nicer. I believe it's Oklahoma that has basically 100% mast arm mounted traffic signals? That state did it right with their signals and so did Ontario. More mast arms are found in the Troy area in Oakland County but few and far between outside of that.

Cool video. I agree with your sentiments about the whine of transversely tined concrete. I can't bemoan any road being reconstructed, but I'm disappointed when concrete is replaced asphalt now. It seems MDOT is using asphalt more than it used to. I drove through Grand Rapids last fall and was surprised to see new full depth asphalt on I-169.

Yeah I'm not sure if tradition is a valid reason during the pavement design selection. If it were up to me, M-59 would be concrete soley for that reason lol. I like to think the old saying in Michigan that "concrete usually gets the freeways and asphalt gets the surface roads" is still true but that starement doesn't seem to hold up on the west side of the state. Different designers/material access I guess
