Yes, it is much more beneficial in the hilly area.

Recharging system consists of a dynamo (a small electricity generator). When the bike is coming downhill or on a downward slope it it's not using the battery power rather coming down under the force of gravity. During this time the dynamo will start working to produce electricity which will charge the battery (so called regeneration). In short regeneration is the generation of electricity for recharging the battery when vehicles is running under the action of gravity or it gets deccelrated when braking is applied to slow it down. I hope this helps.
