@@mjc0961 debatably it's kinda worse and honestly something that could have been done in the remake(not sure if it was or if it wasn't in it as i haven't played) because it was on the 3ds the could have allowed you to just touch three different icons on the touch screen and to automatically switch to it Weird how nintendo is easily the best company to go to for an actual game console yet it seems it's just kinda part of the time that their games actually have controls that make sense as well as taking advantage of everything that is available. Or is that just me? Idk honestly tell me if I'm wrong

@@Sarah12471 considering retro studios already fixed it for them in every single metroid prime game. Everyone should know by now that you play a Nintendo game, leave it for a few years to let it collect dust and then go back to it once you forgot everything. I replayed Prime trilogy a few days ago and it seems better now than before since I had to solve puzzles again and forgot that boss fights aren't a walk in the park.
@aelechko
@aelechko 3 жыл бұрын
Forgetting how to beat a boss or puzzle isn’t what makes a game good. It’s the atmosphere, the story, the sense of being alone on an alien world figuring shit out with very little exposition. The boss fights and puzzles are great of course but that’s not why it’s a legendary game. Like when I go replay Metroid prime it’s not because I want a challenge; literally doesn’t even make sense as a thought. I replay it because I want to get lost in a different world that’s so cohesive and well structured that I just like hanging out in it rolling around armadillo style. And magmoor caverns soundtrack sounds like a slower trippy version of Fix by Static-X. Phendrana drifts just breathtaking. Literally haven’t played the game in ten years and I remember every locations name etc. That’s what makes it a great game.
@11clocky
@11clocky 2 жыл бұрын
@@aelechko as someone who couldn’t care less about atmosphere and story, I liked Metroid Prime for the same reasons as any other metroidvania. The satisfaction of finding a useful powerup that makes you stronger, then remembering some thing you couldn’t pass earlier on that you can now deal with using said powerup. Starting out weak early on with few options for exploring and combat, but by the end of the game turning into an all powerful badass who can reach every nook and cranny on the map and take out the toughest opponents. Also those moments where you get stuck for a bit, then something clicks in your brain and you open a new way forward. It’s a very satisfying, rewarding gameplay loop, and the main draw of the metroidvania genre.
@aelechko
@aelechko 2 жыл бұрын
@@11clocky right but that’s not what I said at all. I said that story and atmosphere make a game great, where the comment chain we’re on implies it’s great because his brain forgot what to do years later. That’s not great that’s your brain being weak. By that logic it’s not a good game if you can remember the puzzles. Btw not being able to progress until you find something. There should be a word for that. Something like atmosphere.

That may not seem like much of a statement, but for me, personally, it's a huge fucking relief for me that this is the general attitude displayed by most of the game's critics. Why? Because this franchise is FINALLY out of the doghouse and it's likely we'll see even more, BETTER installments in the future.

The Enter Sandman bit at work was hilarious -being a frontman on a Metallica tribute for more than 13 years, It happened to me several times, although they seem to remember Master of Puppets more at work, at least...- Now on the review: I find the lack of mentioning of AM2R and the whole #operationsamusreturns thing a little disturbing. For the ones that didn't play it because some other moron said it was a ROMhack, please play it. Morons tend to show signs of brain damage since AM2R is redone from scratch, the actual opposite of a ROMhack. For the ones that played the original Metroid II and this new title and felt quite empty, please play it. Failing to do so is doing yourself a disservice as a Metroid fan -specially if you've enjoyed Zero Mission- It goes beyond of being a fanboy (no one can be more Metroid fanboy than Milton Guasti himself, the man behind AM2R), it's about playing a good Metroid game.

I don't often complain when Yahzee has something wrong and then goes on about it, but geez... Dodgy controls? Literally the only person I've heard say that. Usually any mistakes I've made I know is my fault but each (new) function I figured out on my own through gameplay and loved all of it (except this one bullshit boss, we all know who). And Metroid 2 is not a Metroidvania or supposed to be and that term should never be applied to an ACTUAL Metroid game, especially one made before Metroidvania was a thing including and specifically Super Metroid! Metroid 2 is way more sci-fi horror exploration. Solitude through dark corridors going deeper and deeper into unknown dangerous enemy territory on a planet where you are the invader and the wildlife has every right to defend themselves, murder you, and eat you. Scary, lonely, following a path that could only lead to your death if you're not careful. It's not really even about backtracking (though Samus Returns has that).It's not a Metroidvania and such a thing would applied to something that existed before there was even a concept.

Story is not one of the more memorable parts of a game for me. I couldn't tell you almost a thing that happened in Bioshock Infinite with all of its copious story and mediocre gameplay, but I can tell you all about that giddy feeling I got when I was thinking I was going to get a missile tank in Super Metroid but instead I fell into a room with a boss door, or the sense of dread that came with walking into a misty field of petrified remains in Dark Souls.

After playing the game myself, his whole "so many wonderful buttons" critique holds up less. Because every button *is* used. Y shoots, X counters, B jumps, left bumper free aims, right bumper missiles, which leaves the D pad, touch screen, and A for any special powers or switching modes, so that's what they used. Honestly, I can't even think of a better or quicker way to switch special powers considering how many there are.

The problem is the game doesn’t need a million different projectiles that barely function differently, but all require different button combinations to activate and are necessary to clear very specific obstacles. Game Boys for the first Generation of them were akin to carrying around a large brick, that when kids tried to give you a swirly you could bash them in the face with it. Calling it Game Brick would have probably alienated the fan base further than calling it Game Cube.

So Yahtzee, are you going to review Cuphead and how many times have you been asked that question over the past five days.

Probably an impossibly large number... considering I'm a nobody who does primarily RPGs and even I've been asked when I'm going to cover it 3 times -_- (though it is a fun game, definitely has its flaws)

Probably about as many times as Game Journalists refer to any game they can't play as Dark Souls.

Quick note: Grapple beam doesn't need to be manually activated, if you use the L-shoulder aim or just regular tilt aim at the grapple points, you will shoot the grapple.

I feel you Yahtzee getting ahold of a GameCube in 1991 to play metroid 2 on was tough

It's funny I've played through Samus returns three times and I still love it, actually it's one of my favorite games of the year. It's not a terribly faithful remake of Metroid 2 beyond the basic structure and premise, but then again that's probably a good thing since the original game is a monochromatic confusing clusterfuck. I fully expected that Yahtzee wouldn't be a big fan, but I'm almost more surprised to find that he's lukewarm on it.

Oh come on he goes out of his way to complain about any single game in existence.

Not sure about that. That makes him more of a "game industry hater" in general. Nintendo hater is included in that, but it's not restricted to that.
