I always love watching the shinespark sections. They're just so crazy.

Great run. Awesome new WR!

Pretty much, yeah. The clock actually is ticking during the "Missile Tank Acquired" messages, but the in-game clock is paused during room transitions and cutscenes. Time spent on the pause screen also isn't included in the in-game time.

The lights actually only appear every other frame. The disappearance of the lights is a result of the frame rate difference between the game and youtube.

I'm so jealous of your Tourian drops. Worst part of my run, for sure. I never get good super drops, it seems. Great run.
@XularusXIII11 жыл бұрын
Holy hell... And on top of all of that, you didn't get hit a single time one your way to get the Fully Powered Suit and you didn't use a single save station before or after you got it. Add to that the fact that you survived the entire game on two energy tanks max and... wow. Just... WOW!

Ok, thank you for your time.

Oh ok thanks. I am considering picking this game up to speedrun. I also have to ask, what difficulty is this run at?
@Yadeehoo10 жыл бұрын
You have a great technique. Very impressive
@spideyMZM11 жыл бұрын
This was on normal mode, just like the vast majority of MZM speedruns. Nobody really runs easy mode; you take less damage and the mother brain accepts more missiles between shooting beams, but otherwise it's identical. Hard mode actually makes things different (especially in any%), although it doesn't get quite as much attention as normal.

Question, Are the loading times (items and whatnot) what make this video double the length of the speedrun time?
@XularusXIII11 жыл бұрын
You skipped the long beam... You made Kraid look even weaker than I usually do... How did you get that shinespark after you defeated Motherbrain? And was this a TAS or did you really just make me look that bad at this game?
@afzofa1078 жыл бұрын
XularusXIII it wasnt a TAS

How many times have you practice for this? spideyMZM

Uh, I haven't exactly been counting, but I've been speedrunning the game since 2005. I guess that might give you some rough idea...

Hey there. Nice job on this speed run, its pretty magnificent. I have lately (past 6 months or so) started getting really into speed running, and I have a question for you. I notice that when you ledge grab, you simply climb up rather than spin jumping onto said grabbed platform. I have always been under the impression that climbing was the slower of the two techniques. Am I mistaken or do you choose to climb up in order to minimize error when climbing platforms?
@spideyMZM9 жыл бұрын
+Matthew Tomko Maybe you've already gotten an answer from someone else, but here's my answer: For tool assisted runs, climbing onto a platform is indeed slower - and the total difference it makes over the course of the run is rather large. Unassisted, however, you likely won't be gaining any time at all this way since you're probably not jumping from the ledge at the earliest opportunity, and neither are you probably spin jumping for the minimum number of frames needed to get onto the platform. And if you really try to push it and misjudge either, then you'll probably fall and lose a bunch of time. I think of ledge climbing via spin jumps as a moderate risk, negligible return strategy. I don't consider it worthwhile (though your mileage may vary).

I love this video! And thank you for showing this video B/C I am playing this game on my phone but I would be playing on a computer for my gaming channel. By the way how can you more than once in this game ?I notice the jumping earlier and I am playing my game on easy cuz I am new about the game. And how can you jump infinitely? And heck I am jacked up with missiles and health and your gameplay was absolutely incredible I jaw dropped!
@spideyMZM9 жыл бұрын
Heh, I don't log in very often. This might or might not be useful to you still by the time you see it. I'm guessing you're wondering about the infinite wall jumping. You can do a single wall jump by pushing right/left away from the wall and pushing A immediately afterward (the two should almost be at the same time, but the proper order is right/left and then A). This propels you away from the wall, but after wall jumping, you can steer yourself back toward the wall while still holding A and then perform another wall jump. Due to a "sticky walls" effect present in this game, you can wall jump indefinitely while touching the wall the whole time.
@TJ9304Gaming9 жыл бұрын
spideyMZM ok thanks and thank you for your time to answer. I will try the wall jumping effect in my gameplay.

Hey man awesome run! Were the 4 health left against Ridley calculated or were you just a bit lucky in this case? Also I'd like to know in which areas you think you might be able to improve your time and whether a sub 27 is possible for you?! Keep up the great work!
@spideyMZM10 жыл бұрын
4 health left was more of a calculated thing. Getting hit by the last fireball was accidental, but I use(d) this Ridley strat to be safe because you survive even after taking that hit as I did. (In future SS runs, I'll probably be a bit more suicidal in order to save a few seconds.) Sub 27 should be possible, and I hope to try for it soon. You might see samthedigital do it before me; he's been doing a lot of runs lately and has a 27:11 as of the time of this writing. EDIT: Sam has now done a 26:58 SS. I guess it's time to step up my game. :P

Question, what controller do you use? I am attempting to get better at this game, and I was just wondering what you used. I use a regular GBA, but I hear the SP is pretty good. Just figured I'd ask.
@spideyMZM11 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the SP is great; I'd never use anything else. Most of my MZM speedrunning brethren and I can't stomach the idea of using a regular GBA. I recommend an SP if you can easily get your hands on one.
@Yadeehoo10 жыл бұрын
spideyMZM Huh, what is a SP ?
@Mightypoo00710 жыл бұрын
***** Google is your friend. It's the GBA SP (or GameBoy Advance Special). Has backlight, battery and is much easier to play (speedruns) on.
@buulecoom10 жыл бұрын
***** SP is the second wave model of the original gba handheld. It has a flip up screen design, with same size screen but smaller in your hands therefore easier to hold and do things like wall jump a lot easier. It also inspired the design for the nintendo ds when they first came out. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_Advance_SP

Oh thats pretty awesome for answering me. I'm playing on an emulator tho and I was curious to know if there was some decent USB controler that could get anywhere close to the feel you have with your SP
