Metrolink Los Angeles California Commuter Trains 2022

Metrolink is a commuter rail service in the greater Los Angeles area. Today, the system reaches as far south as Oceanside, as far north as Ventura, and as far east as San Bernardino. 2022 marks 30 years since the commuter railroad first began operations. In this video, we will take a look at present Metrolink trains. A lot has changed over the years including dozens of railroad improvement projects and a new fleet of equipment. Our focus will be in Orange County, but we will also see trains in other locations in the greater LA area.

It's cool how at 8:42 the camera shakes from the F125 and cars thundering on the tracks next to it. Great high-quality video!

I really like the F125. I think it looks better than that wierd seimens thing. Got to see (an) F125 up close at Union Station in DTLA when the 3751 was there just before its rebuild. The horn sucks, but that's easily changed.

Amazing video Mike. Kinda upset that you frequent a lot of my favorite shots and spots without ever crossing paths. Especially the section between the empanada maker / el toro through lake forest path. Every shot along the OC line is a place I’ve been to and you somehow always manage to make it come out 20x as good as I could have ever made it. Love you mike and praying for another return to Cali soon 🙏🏼🙏🏼When were these shots all taken?

Nice video! I've been wondering, which cameras do you use, and which ones do you recommend that are low budget yet produce good photos.

Thanks! This was all filmed with the now discontinued Canon XF400. In terms of a good option, Canon makes some nice “prosumer” grade cameras, although I’m not as familiar with the options these days.

Thank you! I’ve been planning a return to the East Coast for the last 2 years, but something always seems to come up. I am going to make a point of heading east some time next year as it may be the last chance I have to see the original Acela sets in service. I think all the commuter ops out there are past due for a new video anyway since it’s been five years since I visited them all. 7 for Boston.

Great video! I am from SoCal, and in Redlands (my home town) the Arrow commuter train has just opened up, which connects to MetroLink at the San Bernardino Dow ntown. This opening is a huge part in my railfanning as I am too young to drive to all the great railfanning spots around, but now with the train I can go all over. Keep up the good work!! Also, where was shot #2 taken? Hope to see you trackside one day! When do you think you'll be in SoCal again??
