Metrolink Test Train on the Perris Valley Line

Last weekend, I was heading up to the Inland Empire, and I noticed a Metrolink train sitting at the future South Perris station. Knowing it was a test train, I raced over there as it was departing the station. This is one of the first of many test trains that will run along the new Perris Valley Line, in anticipation for a tentative opening in late December 2015. It will be interesting to see what happens when the line opens for operation, both train traffic wise and ridership wise.
Through my searching, this is the first video of a Metrolink train operating on the Perris Valley Line. Stay tuned for more videos from when the line is in operation!

Cabcar: SCAX #676
Engine: SCAX #882 (F59PHI)
Shot #1: The test train is seen crawling alongside Case Rd, shortly after departing South Perris. Lots of horn action from this crew! Still lots of work to be done on the route, If you look closely you can see a set of the quad gates going up while the train is still in the crossing!
Shot #2: Now in North Perris along the I-215 Frontage Road, the past meets the present, as the test train passes the BNSF San Jacinto Local, which used to be the only train to call this line home.
Shot #3: Chased up to River Crest Drive in Moreno Valley. Since the crossings are still undergoing tests, all trains need to be flagged through the crossing.
Shot #4: Coming down the grade in Box Canyon and entering the city of Riverside, the test train does its work at the Mt. Vernon Ave crossing.

It's kind of both. It's a new line for Metrolink's trains that was built on an existing railroad line that previously was only used as a branch line and for storage.

The line will be opened to the public Dec. 28. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Perris Depot this Friday.

Last I heard was on the 29th this month, then in March. I wouldn't be surprised if your claim is true and will open this summer.

Great video with some lovely shots. Metrolink started testing their new Tier 4 locomotive out there in early 2016, before the line opened. Did you ever catch the new locomotive for a later video?

Thank you! Metrolink hasn't received delivery of their new Tier 4 locomotives. The first one, is actually due into Los Angeles tomorrow morning. As the year progresses, they will be put into service.

Thank you.. I love Metrolink and Amtrak but we also need later trains to Riv/\mv because if people want to go to shows or events in LA,, they cannot use the train to go unless they stay overnight which most can't/ they stop too early and abandon us. Can you check into when the carts will be returned to Union Station.. elderly and family's need them to get their suitcases, strollers, car seats, picnic or other items plus meds, CPAPs, medical devices etc and are stuck for hours at the station having to haul everything to bathrooms and snack counters and back to the few seats available., When I go for TX Eagle, I end up at Union Station at least 4 to 7hrs early with my walker and all. We sit there for hrs until 8pm when we can finally get our seats set up then 2 more hrs til we are cattle called to our train and then have to try to get our stuff up to the right track and rushed onto trains and not lose ISs etc. The carts are vitally necessary and are keeping me from using both train companies and Metro workers told us they were not allowed to help us at 5>30 am and the other person had 2 kids, luggage, diaper bags, car seats, strollers etc. They said they were told you are not Greyhound and not ALLOWED to help and did at risk to their jobs. Would you post a picture of the March station and does it have restrooms/snackbar etc? thank you.

Anne Warren I'm not sure about the carts. Depending on who you ask at Union Station, they will tell you different things. If I were you, I would call Metrolink directly about that. 1-800 371-5465. You can also call Amtrak directly at Union Station at [phone]. As for the March AFB Station, I don't have any photos of that, but I hope to visit it very soon. Stay tuned!
