For antecedents in symphonic jazz, listen to performances by the legendary Paul Whiteman who worked with George Gershwin and premiered _Rhapsody in Blue_ , and the all-too-short-lived Army Air Forces Orchestra (1934-45) which brought together a 24-piece swing band and 21-member string section chosen from leading symphony orchestras of the time.

@@jeffmusicman11 Look for the album 'Epiphany' by Vince Mendoza. His Solo is Joyous. Also an absolutely beautiful Joe Lovano solo on that album too. Be well.

The song is commonally called Esperanto, of similar etymology as esperanza. Esperanto, one who hopes, is a spoken and written language, used by millions, with large numbers in countries as far afield as Japan and Brazil. Hundreds of thousands of mostly young learners are studying it by means of new on-line courses.
@rr7firefly6 жыл бұрын
+Blonstein -- if you plug Esperança into a translation app (one being Google Translate) it will give you Esperanza in Spanish and Hope in English. Why would this song title be related to the old language created by L. L. Zamenhof, a Polish-Jewish ophthalmologist, in the late 19th century? Esperanto literally means "one who hopes." Other than that, what is the connection?
@matthewsimpson50384 жыл бұрын
@@rr7firefly this tune is only known as Esperanto in relation to Kurt Ellings lovely vocalese version. The funny thing is that he named it Esperanto in error, but the name stuck. Listen to Kurt intro on his Live at the Green Mill album.

… sowas von (sehr)gut. Kaum auszuhalten in der Metropole-Perfektion. Vor allem von Bart v. L. Aber ihr spielt ja schon ewig zusammen. Darum ist auch das deutsche Ponton DIE WDR Big Band auf dem selben Level. Zumal einige Trompeter meistens dort auch fest mitmachen. Es lebe deshalb die deutsche Rundfunkgebühr. Wie finanziert eigentlich Holland das Orchestra ?!?
