Jacob may have as much knowledge as Cory, probably even more. But Cory is just better at applying that the tastiest way possible. Jacob just shows us how far music can go and he keeps surpassing his limit.

All of these ppl are great musicians and i love Jacob but i dont think ppl undersatand that Corey is not reading the music on most of these pieces, he's playing from memory and improvisation. Tht is a whole other stratosphere of musicianship Corey Henry is a BEAST!!!!!!
@oldnoiseboy7 жыл бұрын
Many orchestras simply don't cut it with great shit like this, often just not tight enough, maybe simply through their being an orchestra (and consequently spread out across a big stage). Time can become a little elastic and where in a more classical format that is possibly kind of ok, for anything with an element of funk / groove to it can frequently prove disastrous - or at least rythmically pedestrian. So hats off to Metropole and their particularly propulsive drummer and bass guitarist for giving this so much drive in all the right places, supporting Corey's genius and making me smile. Yes, the Hammond should be a bit higher in the mix and Jacob's contributions are virtually inaudible, but otherwise a good mix and as commented by others, an impressive, effervescent performance.
@bobshepherd29665 жыл бұрын
Bingo, oldnoiseboy -- all your points are spot on! It's true that the huge footprint of a full orchestra ordinarily makes pinpoint timing of music like this nearly impossible. Here, the individual monitors eliminate this variable, but what a huge task the soundcheck must have been that day! I doubt that the audience heard the same mix we did. "Our" mixdown was probably done well after the performance. But Jacob and Cory were strangely low in it (especially Jacob). I hope a reworking can be done and released.

i love jacob collier and cory henry (he's literally my favorite), but there collaborations with this orkestra are less than brilliant. The two need to just get together and jam and see what comes up.
@catoblepag3 жыл бұрын
Great, but this needed a proper Hammond solo. I know there are many parts that can be considered solos (though they're mixed a bit too low), but the arrangement should have left the organ some room to breathe, muting those intrusive horns for a minute, and let Cory go to town with just bass and drums, as a "spotlight" on him.

In my opinion, the electric organ sounds pale against the background of the orchestra. This is not an instrument that sounds good as a soloist.

The mix really sucks. You can't make anything out of Cory's solo and one can, barely, hear some power chords and rundowns from Jacob... What a waste...
@gdj62984 жыл бұрын
PATHETIC mix. And Leslie too close -miked. Has ANYONE got the version from the BBC Proms a few years ago ? (I'd settle for audio only !) It seems that it's the only track from that concert that's been deleted. (edit - and Billie Jean too) And mix-wise the Beeb got it RIGHT, everything audible and B3 screaming over the top of it. Cory is sweating spinal fluid here and there's just this fluttery wibble coming out.....
@MrJosnoordanus3 жыл бұрын
I have that version on my hard disk

Wow! Amazing version! Thanks for share it! #BigBand
