The metro of Genoa (Metropolitana di Genova) was gradually opened in the years 1990 to 2012 and now consists of a 7 kilometer long line. This line has 8 stations, 6 of which are underground. The entire route operates on an exclusive right-of-way and is electrified with 750 V DC via overhead catenary.
The rolling stock consists of AMT 01-06 (since 1990), AMT 11-22 (since 1991), and a new third generation AMT 31-37 (since 2016, not shown in this video).
Between Dinegro and Brin the line uses a former tram tunnel from 1908. At the stations Principe and Brignole you can change to the long-distance and regional trains and towards Milano, La Spezia or Savona.
Genoa itself is definitely a special city. The densely populated urban area stretches more than 30 kilometers along the Mediterranean Sea on the Gulf of Genoa. In the direction of the mountainous north however, the city sometimes ends after several hundred meters. This results in a spectacular and lively city complex with countless tunnels, bridges, lifts and several mountain railways - always in the focus: the huge port, from which the ferry trip continues to Tunisia, Morocco, Sardinia or Corsica.
