Now that they're in a more reasonable state, it's obvious the Mewtwos have a complete lack of exciting skill expression. Sure, you can time a Psystrike to avoid a round of CC, or use Future Sight after someone has burned their dash/blink, but the absence of depth to any of these moves is just hilariously apparent. Aegislash, for example, has two forms which you need to manage in quick succession in a team fight. Azumarill has a 'sweet spot' mechanic with Aqua Tail that feels amazing to land. Even other basic attackers like Cinderace and Greninja have nuances to even their three-hit passives which demand you optimize for the most damage. Mewtwo has almost NONE of this - just hold down the attack button and stat-check the enemy to death.

I honestly think they should've approached the whole mega thing a little different. Make it so that you have to equip a Mega Stone (either X or Y), kinda like how Zacian need the sword equipped. That would in itself nerf mewtwo in a way, as you can now equip only two items. Next, probably leave the mega as its Unite move? And you turn into the Mega equivalent to the equipped stone, and change the move set (X has two default attacks, Y has two default attacks). I feel like it would make it a little more balanced, and add a "surprise" element. I know that is kind of what Hoopa does, but honestly, it seems to fit the concept of Mega Pokemon much more that turning mega and returning every few minutes

Yes, this is how I'd have wanted it too. They wasted the fact that mega stones ARE supposed to be held items. The battle item can even become the Key Stone, which is in fact something a trainer needs to mega evolve a pokemon. Making it triggered by unite move is good too, since the unite move IS the battle winning move. Can probably still be stupidly busted, but it's probably cooler/more fun this way, and certainly better than being busted so easily without drawbacks.

I still find it incredibly strange why they designed it this way. Zeraora is really fun, mew and hoopa have some of the highest difficulty caps in the game, and even Zacian has a cool design, it was just way overtuned and bugged. I dunno what in their brains turned off while designing these mons, but I want it back. Here’s to hoping they both get some serious reworks in the future!

This is the issue with making something super powerful and easy to use. It takes out the uniqueness of a character that makes a Pokemon so fun to play. M2Ys uniqueness is literally just press A faster its just really simple and brain-dead to use while being extremely boring. It's definitely not very fun to play compared to other ranged carries in this game. I feel like Recover needs to have some other kind of mechanic, like detonating the shield to push away enemies or something. I think its unite move is actually quite fun to use, since it's very satisfying to land on 3+ grouped enemies.

Yeah agreed. Remove the unstoppable, decrease the stun duration to 0.5, decrease damage of the final ball. Reduce teleport damage buff from 30% to 15%. Decrease attack speed buff from passive to half, reduce mega form to 10s and make it so ult doesn't damage wild mons.

Farming m2y is boring I agree. I find him better in lane now. If you don't face a lane bully you can just poke your opponents out of lane. Like start normally and at the first contested farm don't hit b at all, just press a. With future sight and recover you will win every long trade and when they are poked out of lane they either die or you have all the farm. You either get all the jungler pressure and the opposite side of the map steam roll in 3v2 or you steam roll your side and cash on your lead to carry the game. The only problem is the securing of objectives where you can't with m2y and have to rely on your allies. I go for 5 red and then as much green and white as possible, double band spoon.

I played it for the first time yesterday since I figured it's probably ethical now, and I can confirm it definitely isn't too OP. It's pretty boring overall, especially how long it takes to farm, but there are 2 things that I find enjoyable about it. The first is when you turn a team fight or a gank around by getting your mega at the right time, and going womp womp womp until everything is dead. The other is sniping kills and objectives from across the map with it's unite. But yeah, the things that make it fun to me are also the most egregious, because no one likes to be on the receiving end of those things.

Mewtwo Y is definitely A tier or above still, though only his better players can come close to the scale of damage pre-nerf Y did. You'd think that for such a simplistic character, more people would do better. Now, I just watch most of them get punished for typical squishy mistakes like bad positioning or for typical low macro player mistakes other players of any mon make. He's not a mon I can play for multiple matches in a row, since it's too boring. However a couple of matches here and there is nice to focus more on the macro and less on micro sometimes.

I don’t think Mewtwo should have ever been a playable Pokémon it’s whole concept is being OP I’ve said this so many times already I wish they would have made a cave themed map with Mewtwo being the new Zap/Ray and instead of Megas being a game mechanic they could’ve rolled out Mega Evolution Holowear for all Mons with Mega Evos not all at once of course since that’s around 10+ Holowears they can release them in packs or something they get what they want which is money we get cool content and they don’t have to worry about balancing anything since it’s all cosmetic

I think a better way to balance mewtwo x and y is to nerf base stats and take some of the power benfits of mega evo and put it into base mewtwo. Itll still be a nerf, but there will be a bit more power in base and a bit stronger in mega.

They honestly could have gone with just something like Cinderace. Easy to play, hard to master and really the main issue is how similar both Mewtwo's kits are. They could at least have put one or two different moves in there. It's not like all 5 eevees have the same moves before evolving.

It's still plenty strong, played it for the first time after nerfs, hadn't touched it for almost a month and still managed to cruise to 100k in damage. Didn't even feel like it to be honest. I think that's just down to how it feels to play, there's really nothing else to playing Mewtwo besides pressing A. It's not super oppressive anymore and the lesser skilled Mewtwo Y's are now really starting to show the cracks in their playstyle. I really wish they would rework this pokemon so that it isn't so incredibly braindead to play. Feels like a waste of such a cool Legendary. Build I used that game was the psystrike/teleport build. It's still incredibly easy to play but it's much more fun than future sight/recover.

greedent is a Pokemon that is super complicated to use and if you see it in soloq it's 100% troll as your only defender. Unless they can successfully invade atleast once but extremely unlikely. M2Y has always been worse than greedent since release anyways . Competitively doesn't matter too much.

The gameplay isn't the most interesting, I would've liked it with a bit more depth but honestly I enjoy it just because it's Mewtwo, it was always the reason for me to play unite anyway, just use the pokemon I like. The auto attacks going crazy are fun for me though. Also Teleport/Psystrike is more exciting to use but still a bit weaker imo. And I think it's relatively fair now, you can still bully people in early game but it isn't nearly as good later on so...

At least Mewtwo X has quite an unusual moveset for a brawler (Psystrike being a ranged projectile, Future Sight being a hook, and having a global unite move) despite all of its moves being point-and click. Also most brawlers in this game primarily deal damage through their skills, so a melee adc is actually a bit unique in this game. Even when compared to Mewtwo X, Mewtwo Y is so unbelievably boring to play, as these moves lose their novelty factor, and all that remains is a group of boring point-and click moves. Also farming with Mewtwo Y is one of the most mind-numbing things you can do in this game. It feels like it takes forever and there’s no enjoyment at all to be gained from it.

Mewtwo is my favourite pokémon otuside unite so i guess i'll finally buy one of them but not sure which. Mewtwo X design sucks and I hate they turned the classic godlike psychic pokémon into a melee figther but Mewtwo Y seems hella boring. Maybe psystrike + teleport is the way.

I think the problem with Mewtwo Y is that without over-tuned stats it’s just a boring character. Auto attack , point and click abilities, auto attack some more I don’t think this is the way to do legendary Pokémon. I think they want it to feel accesible to lots of players but making auto win characters isn’t fun. Ironically Zacians design is a better way to go. It’s strong, has a different way to play the game, moves that feel versatile and the list goes on. Mewtwo Y’s kit is just bland

idk what you guys expected. We are talking about Nintendo at the end of the day. You really think they would balance a game based on a competitive crowd? No, if they actually cared about that then they would have released this on PC, but such a thought is a fantasy because, AGAIN, this is Nintendo we are talking about. They power crept the hell out of this game already. Even Emblems were a mistake.I came back to this game a few months ago and found out what Emblems were. I could NOT make any good set without it being either scuffed or me having -200 HP for 5 atk. Ridiculous. "Emblems dont matter", bull shit when the alternative GOOD emblem set is +300 HP and 7 atk. That HP matters. That move speed matters. To say it doesnt matter is cope, because if it didnt matter then you would not be using them in the first place. All of that would be fine if not for the fact that i have to painfully farm for these emblems and just deal with the fact that everyone is +300-600 more HP lvl 1 right out the gate than i have with the shit emblems i own. They fucked this game up, as i predicted.

Every time I play mewtwo (either form) I just sing the Ultra Instinct theme whenever I mega evolve to entertain myself. Then when the match is over my reaction is either "I did 100K damage?" or "So this is the power of Ultra Instinct."

It's the worst design in the game. Not even one move has to he aimed. Everything is sure-hit and simply pressing A. Before Mewtwo came to the game I had high hopes, because usually it's one of my favourite Pokemon. I even added a new emblem set for Sp.Atk. and Crit. However, when it came to the game it was just a big disappointment. Not only was/is it so insanely broken that it ruined the game, it's also just so incredibly boring to play. Nice job ruining this cool Pokemon by making it so overloaded, overtuned, and lame... I wish they completely reworked Mewtwo. Just nerfing it doesn't make it less boring. It's just morally less bad now. By the way, that Regieleki gave me anxiety. I nearly walked in that last few centimeters like three times lol

Why are you even playing recover not having teleport means youre doing less damage and farming is slower lifesteal is far less important than mobility on a squishy attacker with only 1 single target shove it makes no sense to use recover, the mega gauge increase is basically nothing at all and teleport will let you build it super fast when you hit anyone anyway

Mega forms can be super cool. I would actually be happy if Charizard get its Mega form... That said, it doesn't mean it has to be busted all the time. Here are some things they could and probably should have done: 1. Make the Mega Stone consume a held item slot (like Zacian); 2. Make the battle item into an unusable item, the Key Stone (like Zacian); 3. Make it so that the mega evolution happens when you use your unite move, not, you know, every 8~12 basic attacks? Can still be stupidly busted (like Zacian's debut), but like, it'd at least be a better start, as long as they don't go completely insane with the unite move effect, or make the base pokemon too strong. Mega evolution isn't the problem (especially since the devs in Unite get to fix it-- as opposed in the main game where the mechanics are set in stone), it's their implementation that is the problem.
