@@swiftie762Here’s what I could think of: -Upgrades and builds were a good idea, and legendary upgrades were literally just variants. It just needed a lot more to work fully. -Arena mode being an outlet for a proper competitive mode was great, they just butchered it by removing the ladder and nerfing it to a weekly event. -All of the new character classes are fun to play as, and actually took advantage of the fact that BFN had no variants. -The different physics I liked, but I wouldn’t say it’s superior to GW2. -Faster-paced gameplay I quite enjoy -Fights feel a lot less one-sided in BFN, because GW2 feels like as long as you can get the jump on someone, you will win 80% of the time, provided the opponent doesn’t have some form of cheese. Anyway, even if I don’t like all of these changes and still overall like GW2 (by a sizeable margin), I can’t help but admit BFN had “good” ideas.

Here's some information to clear up some misconceptions in the video. Garden Warfare 2's major updates were cut early in late 2016 and in early 2017, development on a Garden Warfare 3 began. During this time period, EA looked at the monetization scheme and variant system and streamlined it by switching from a Sticker Shop (loot-boxes) to Rux (Item Shop), and turning variants into upgrades. Due to the game not having upgrades and playing differently from Garden Warfare 2, PopCap renamed it to Battle for Neighborville. The game itself was going to have more marketing but nothing happened with it. It had multiple leaked release dates, like December 2019 and January 2020. There was an unused tie-in event with Garden Warfare 2 where you would log into the game to get special content in Battle for Neighborville.

I think that this game had serious potential. The added mobility makes the game feel much faster than having to slowly move through the backyard battleground and the pvp maps, and it can make every fight feel like you have more control in if you win or not than compared to gw2, at least in my experience

Whenever I started to try to play this game, it was overrun with nightcaps built for regening health instantly and having fung Foo on cooldown, or the same pair of guys sitting in thier spawn and spamming dandelions/ impsicles for the entire round. These guys would pick new players to camp and would CONSTANTLY bully anyone even vaguely engaging them, or would go on server wide pub stomp. Months later, they were still doing it and generally would ruin the experience. There was of course the weird balancing, like making Soldier the worst zombie, and the awful spam of "Every ability one shots you with the world's largest hit box". Hell, the only three Zombies that could survive fung Foo were All star IF You tackled the night cap, pirate IF you immediately jumped into your barrel, and Electric slide if you used her immunity ability. Outside of that, you'd get free kills all day.

Im not here to start rambling about this as a BFN fan, but the main point is that this is NOT a GW3 as GW2 was perfect enough and trying to expand on it would be waste of more materials then just updating GW2. The most common thing is I see is when people talk about GW2 its always new varients/maps and it doesn't expand or give off a new feeling that GW2 has. That's what BFN tried to do, it gave the game actual teamwork and not some solo warfare gameplay, they gave more opinions for players to fight PvP, PvE, etc. The upgrades are basically variants but you make your own, and allows you to make your own playstyle and not being limited while giving almost every upgrade a purpose while some GW2 and GW1 variants are too broken or so bad no one uses them. So BFN fixed all those problems but no one likes change and that is ok. Lastly, the art style for the game feels like pvz as its always been goofing through the games, ads, and comics. They made it like that to make it feel like PVZ and even giving social interactions with text bubbles and giddy park to connect everyone compared to how isolated GW2 is.

I heard it was because of the engine/artstyle changes and that was the feature the devs cut to save time. It also sucks they got rid of the alt abilities and made them worse to play against upgrades. How am I suppose to know that spike weed is vampiric when it's the same model??? In bfn it feels like they went the overwatch route and made it to where you have to play a character one way instead of gw's more generalist everyman playstyle. Like engineer but want an automatic weapon? Boom here's mechanic. Want a more offensive cactus? Boom bandit cactus. Gw2 made even more unique variants by combining attributes like piercing and fire damage on captain flameface or ice and range for yeti chomper. The variants acted like tf2 alt weapons in that you get to try something new but with a class your still familiar with that leads to a lot of replayability. The best part is that even bfn recognized this lack of variety by trying to hastily add the legendary upgrades and associate them with certain outfits. "See guys it's just like variants"! Variants are just one problem of many bfn has but there's a reason it's a pretty darn big one.

As someone who’s max ranked bfn and is getting close to max ranking garden warfare 2. I’ll give my thoughts. A lot of the problems everyone has with BFN is that it isn’t what Gw2 was. No variants, sprinting, etc… but I decided to look a this from both sides. The thing is that Bfn isn’t garden warfare, it’s in the title that it says it’s basically another spin-off. I don’t think they can make a garden warfare 3 because garden warfare 2 pretty much already did everything. Yeah there’s more characters but they aren’t gonna make Gw3 just to add more characters, Gw2 added so much off of Gw1 and did it perfectly. They really could’ve only made a spin-off from there, but the problem was that Garden Warfare had no support after that. If they wanted to make a spin off, I wouldn’t blame them but the problem is they ditched gw2 for Bfn. That’s a TERRIBLE idea for many reasons, but I won’t get into that. This is where the criticism drew. I say that BFN isn’t a terrible game, it was still really fun completing the prize map and the Pve was honestly really creative. Giddy park (as toxic as it may be) is super creative and can be pretty fun sometimes. However, right now it definitely sucks. They left the game with a drastic meta, and it’s filled with terrible bugs. My take is that BFN isn’t a horrible game, but bfn players have to stop lying to themselves, saying that the game is better than Gw2, despite never having played gw2 genuinely in the longest time. I used to be one of those people and it’s just not true. Sure, BFN had a ton of potential, and I don’t know anyone who thinks that BFN didn’t have potential. The problem was honestly both the community and the developers decisions. If they ever come back to develop pvz games, they’re better off updating gw2 if not both. I don’t really see how a gw3 could fit into the equation anymore, if it even could to begin with. Those are my thoughts.

This is basically it, but I will say that while you can say that gw2 is better technically, they are a bit too different in terms of… almost everything to directly compare what’s better especially considering that the game is just not as “finished” per se. And tbh, I think with more skill and teamwork in mind, the game is more balanced than gw2, with maybe a few exceptions…

Honestly BFN is pretty great, as a game its pretty perfect outside of the many game breaking glitches, most of them ones the general community doesn't know about (thank god) and the INSANE lack of balance. People just give it a lot of hate because it's not Garden Warfare 3, but it was never meant to be. It's got very good pve content and actually pretty good character customisation unlike GW2, I genuinely think the upgrade system in BFN is actually way better designed than people give it credit for. @@wargreninja6704 Ironically enough, BFN is the least P2W game of the three, as all the paid currency does is give you fancier outfits (which do nothing gameplay-wise), or act as a fast track to unlock legendary upgrades if you’re impatient. GW2 suffers from loot box syndrome and has two paid-only characters (one of which is my channel mascot funnily enough!) Gameplay is subjective, and I can’t decide on which physics engine I like more, but I really enjoy BFN’s snappier movement and faster-paced action. The marketing though, that’s completely on them, and I can’t defend it at all. It just sucks lol.

8:53 i’ll sum it up for you. wizard is a character that can shoot Med Range Projectiles, and if you charge it up; bouncy balls around that hit people at the worst possible time, has a curse that drains your health, he has a get off me too and can get into Teamates and becomes a turret. TV head is one of if not the most fun character in the game. He can shoot DVDs from a tv remote cannon, put down a bucket that lets you respawn in a place you put it in, can throw down a tv dinner that works like a mine for a few seconds ( explodes on contact ) and can summon a yeti imp that can do big damage explosion. and also has a melee attack that can be used in a pinch. Wildflower is a Diet TV Head. same primary, same melee, has the bucket but its a pot instead, she has dandelion instead of a yeti imp that is floaty rather than fast ( fast is better ) instead of a tv dinner it throws out something like a grenade, exploding when it hits someone or the ground.

Giddy park was still goated though, it was so much fun to either be friendly with people, or be bitter rivals with some random mf on the enemy team. One of my favorite memories is finding a glitch where if you get the swarm characters and go to one of those little shop stands with like the plushies and things in them you can shoot, if you do it right, you can glitch into them by putting down your respawner thingy in Just the right spot and respawning. It was so fun to troll people with, lmao.

Ever since they patched Acorn's Sticky Sap Trap, he can sometimes be a mixed in certain situations. I remember how busted this ability is, and it can deal incredible damage during the early days of this game... and then there's Space Cadet Seriously, despite being Space Cadet lacking long range abilities, she is more capable in dealing with any plant, including Acorn and Oak, where she can easily wipeout the entire squad with her Space Station, especially when she is attacking from above (and has a ton of health and dps).

Yeah, but her main primary fire outside of station is lacking in every department. EVERY SINGLE ONE. Reload is slow, fire rate is below average, damage is only decent, projectile speed is relatively slow, all “justified” by homing, as well her abilities being either kinda to literally trash without upgrades, and as good is the station is, it’s still slow, large, and vulnerable without passengers.

Honestly, I actually like Battle For Neighborville. I think it had an amazing storymode and cool new classes. Plus, I actually love the artstyle. However, it's not as good as the style of the other two shooters. There are still a lot of priblems with the game that I do acknowledge. I feel like they spent too much time on making the backgrounds instead of the actual characters, and they removed variants. (I understand why they might've removed vatiants, but I mean it still kinsa sucks. ) Ranking this on a teir list, it's definitely a step down from PvZ GW2 and GW1, but it sould be at least A tier. At least i's better than PvZ 3. (But anything is better than PvZ 3.) Plus, does anybody know what version of the PvZ track, "Crazy Dave" was in the beginning of this video?

I've recently got it on the Switch and I've honestly been having quite a lot of fun. There's no microtransactions (unless I missed them), so that part is better. This video helped me realize why i like it so much more than others, I've actually always been a single player kind of guy, and I really prefer it to multiplayer. Sure, the story missions aren't anything special, all the main area missions are "collect three things to fight the boss", but every step and the bosses themselves are different in aome way, plus the gnome trials and bounties. Ops and battle chest things kind of annoy me, though. I definitely understand the missing character variations being frustrating, though. I never got to play a Garden Warfare game before, and even I was annoyed that those got removed just from having known about them. I don't necessarily find upgrades confusing, though. But it is garbage that just having played the game longer means your character is better. The art style getting complaints ks something I dont get at all, though. Super Brainz seems like the best example to me, because in BfN, he looks way more like he dies in Heroes, like they just made him 3D. In GW2, he just looks like goofy play dough nightmare fuel- (Rose and Imp still look like crap anyway, though, not gonna lie)

im pretty sure the reason for no variants was because they had to switch to a different version of the game engine, which for whatever reason made a lot of the models and such not work and since they had limited time to make the game they had to just scrap them

Engine switch was a part of the problem in the game development but it wasn’t the main reason. They were essentially lowkey rebooting the PvZ series with this game (first instance of a brand new logo, different vibe compared to the previous games with the whole Neighborville thing and a new artstyle compared to GW2 which looks mostly identical to GW1 artstyle wise). They were going for a different monetization system with a high focus on skins and occasional new character class drops (BFN had more classes planned to be added to the game but was cut off short). They could’ve (should’ve) still stuck to the original GW formula had the executives not forced them to do all of this.

There is a good chance the devs knew this was a bad idea but were forced to go along with it anyway. Another thing BFN ditched are the alternate abilities like switching out Chili Bean Bomb for Dark Bean Bomb, etc. The upgrade system is not a real substitute for variants. It’s pretty much just a slightly fancier version of what GW2 already has and could easily co-exist with variants (in fact there is a GW2 mod called “Loads Of Variants” which alongside adding what its namesake implies, features BFN-style upgrades for each individual variant).

I’m not saying bring all 100 something variants back. But like for example how imp is more designed for an attack role as a pressure/fear class pylon imp could of done something similar like that but more around a defense like system yk. Also I’m not incredibly faithful in mod’s making something better. My reason for that is cause mods like that can only be mostly used in a PVE “or simpily put player vs bot”. I don’t hate modders and I do respect some of there work. But I do know for a fact that most modders are short sided when it comes to actual balancing and public mods can sometimes put a lot of risk as well to. Take skid-begone for example they made an addon that was meant to counter hackers yet was turned against them when the hackers found an exploit in other words I don’t fully trust there work as similar to Popcap they only see it as solving the problem not what the consequences will be afterwards. In short there ideas are good but they might not be fully 100% perfect just like my ideas to.

A way that the upgrade system could've been better implemented would've been to give visual indicators for the upgrades and to parallel the variants in the GW games, that way there could've been builds that would function identically to previous variants or even combinations of multiple variants, making it the system easier to understand and allow making your ultimate load-outs

They should have followed the Garden Warfare 1 and 2 formula with more stuff, but instead they tried to make this more like Overwatch and Team Fortress. Not only did they remove the class variants but they watered them down to their most basic form. The Snap Dragon was a class I wanted in the next Garden Warfare, but it’s basically just the fire or acid breathing variant of the Chomper.

Loved roleplaying in the offline hub just endlessly chasing each other, it was just a really fun and well designed map. 9:50 that happened in gw1 and gw2. it was just a little different, as the character variants were unlocked via coins, which you got from playing the game, (both games) and the upgrades were in gw2, you just got them from leveling up your characters, and there was nothing stopping you from just going to the soccer arena and kill grinding with a friend or with split screen. (my personal cheat preference)

Honestly, the game suffers from being released unfinished. I see what they tried to do and I think they would have released more special abilities for other plants besides super brains, rose and corn. PVZ GW 2 had all the 1st games variants with other characters and more variants released later on while BFN had no variants (fewer characters) which means fewer ways to play so people run out of things to do in game having done all of what a character can do within a few hours.
