Not a Latina, but this story is just too good to not tell. Anyway, my mom use to give my younger brother and me pep talks before we would enter any restaurant. It was always the same, "You are under ten and if you say you are not then we are never coming here again." My brother and I thought it was a pain in the butt and all we wanted to be was grown ups. So one day when I was 11, we went to Pizza Inn, my favorite pizza buffet. Mom gave us the pep talk and we went inside. The server came over and asked our ages. I looked at my mom, grinned, and then turn to the lady to tell her "I'm 11." I signed my death certificate. My mom glared at me the whole way through the meal, but I was so glad to be considered an adult at the restaurant. When we left, my mom beat my butt for embarrassing her in front of her friend and we never went to another Pizza Inn for the rest of my childhood. I was so sad and they ended up closing the restaurant down soon after this. My mom let me believe for months after that they closed down because of me not lying about my age.

I would never do something like that in front my mother. I can just remember one day my mom, my brother and I went to a circus and we were about to go in to the performance but, just a few seconds before entering, we saw a friend of mine from school with his brother trying to use their tickets, but they couldn't use them because they didn't have a representative with them, so my mother approached to the cabin and said to the ticket seller "they came with us" and as soon as we were trying to get them in we met the stars of the show "Los Hermanos Valentinos" in the entrance, they both talked to the ticket seller to let us go in. They politely welcomed us and we all enjoyed the show.

if I found out that I had to close down resturaunts by lying to my age I'd take that gator skin belt ch*nga from my dad anytime just to get rid of my little brothers favorite resturaunts. Bc if I ever lied about my age my mom would sit down, and pretend like there was nothing interesting on the order and just leave after using the bathroom then I would get whooped in the butt and grounded from anywhere around a week to a month depending on how she liked the resturaunt

@@carolyn6689 I did a temp job at a bakery once. It was a pretty decent sized city in the Midwest. They made all brands of bread and put different packaging on them. Even the Olive Garden called in for their bread sticks. So that was when I learned that Olive Garden breadsticks couldn't be purchased at the grocery store under a different label. It's fresher than you think, although it does have a lot of preservatives. Never as good as the real thing though

My mom was the same way when we were kids if we were sick. “Oh, you’re sick? Well, we’re going to the doctor, just to be sure.” That backfired on her a lot, because my brother and I are the worst patients. We don’t admit being sick, and go from zero to “maybe I might be sick,” which translates to “oh shit, we should have been at the ER already,” to spouses. So, when Mom would say that, she would have two kids who were curled up and miserable whispering, “okay.” Then she would freak out because she KNEW we were sick. Now, we both have primary care doctors who hate it when we call and say, “I don’t feel so good,” because they are going, “Oh God, is it pneumonia again? Gallbladder? Kidney stones? What fresh hell this time?”

Man, these MrChuy's videos just remind me of so many moments that I honestly semi look back fondly on. I do have one small critique, which is that I feel a few of these moments should not be passed down within our generations, with the "being sick" TikTok probably being the biggest one to let go of. The idea that if and when you're sick, you're not allowed to enjoy yourself is something that can become very toxic. Finding something to laugh or distract yourself from whatever is bothering you can actually speed up your recovery. Especially now, we have to normalize not sending sick kids to school or not going to work when you're sick. I know that there will always be kids lying about being sick to get out of going to school or doing work, but we as a culture, parents, and people need to not immediately think they're lying to us.
@anitacrumbly2 жыл бұрын
I wholeheartedly agree i got whooping cough as preteen and then pneumonia because "you don't seem sick" I ended up in the hospital. I thought it was just my mother. There are alot of other things like in a previous video i wasn't sure if they were joking about having to ask permission to leave the house even if they are like 40 that kind of controlling behavior is awful. I think as a culture we can see that child development and psychological research has come a long way and perhaps a more authoritative can be adopted as it's the best parenting approach which allows children a voice and are able to express themselves so parents can guide their child as they grow figuring out how to cope in a healthy way with emotions it is a safe place where children feel free to ask parents for advice knowing the parents won't judge or discipline them for coming to them with issues, they have privacy and learn about boundaries vs. Authoritarian or my house my way no questions. There should always be rules but to never allow questions or to from the start have a distrust of your child is not healthy and will only lead to children with resentments and secrets because home isn't a safe place they aren't allowed boundaries or privacy, one where they have to hide things or they will get in trouble. In the long run authoritarian style parenting produces aggressive and angry people who distrust others to a degree that isn't healthy. Authoritative is what we should be striving for and it will take time but doing harmful things simply because it's always been done that way isn't a good reason to keep doing it and we are the ones that can break the cycle as some have done already.

I STRONGLY disagree with the "no entertainment when you're sick" rule. I get it. You don't want your kids lying, but it doesn't make sense. "You're miserable and sick, so you have to sit here and stare at the wall and be even more miserable. You're not allowed to have any pleasure at all if you're sick." This just causes kids to go to school sick and get a bunch of other kids sick.
@Caprizonica2 жыл бұрын
When you're sick, you're not thinking about any entertainment, so the moms are right. I think you're referring to be mildly sick or having mild aches or discomfort. That doesn't count for moms. You have to power through. If you're really sick then you will be taken care of but then again, you'll be too sick to be aware of it. The principle behind is that kids shouldn't lie of being sick just to skip endevours. Now, this is from older generations not the new ones that spoil children a lot, actually.
@anitacrumbly2 жыл бұрын
@@Caprizonica you shouldn't "power" through and go anywhere if you are sick with the cold which is a mild sickness in your weird scale. You spread illness that way and it could be spread to someone who a cold could mean a very big deal like someone immunocompromised person. Also laying in bed watching tv and downing fluids is an appropriate response to having a cold, the flu, the stomach flu or anything in this tier of sickness so you don't spread it to others and so you will recover faster. If you are too sick to even keep your head up to do this that means you need a doctor because children and fevers are no joke. Kids will from time to time of course try to stay home, but you can always tell when they are sick and/or when they are being sincere besides the worst that happens is they miss a day of school to lay in bed and watch tv when they weren't physically ill, count it as a mental health break because yes children need those breaks same as adults. there are plenty of stories of people whose parents didn't believe they were sick and eventually got diagnosed with a chronic illness once they were able to go to the doctor as an adult or worse some that were hospitalized because the parent thought they should "power through" my story was in the latter. I had a cold then a cough that lasted three months and eventually got pneumonia because i wasn't "sick enough" to stay home or to see a doctor and through those whole three months i was watching tv and movies including when i was admitted into the hospital for pneumonia i watched tv in the hospital as well. So this isn't spoiling children it's caring for their health and wellbeing.
