Yes, my wife is Nigerian, and I've visited Nigeria a few times. I've learned to make Ewa, plantain, Pepper chicken, Joloff rice, and moyin moyin,....oh and egusi stew and pommo,...livers and goat stew,.mmmmmmm, wonderful!

@@staytruealways207 I don't think so. I'm a foodie and like to absorb every aspect of the meal I'm excited to eat. The smell, the taste on my palate, swallowing it..I just love to take it all in and assess everything together. My mom didn't like I did that though but I think it's a cultural myth that smelling food is like saying the food looks nasty, whereas smelling actually begins the process of enjoying the meal.

Nigerian food is really hard to make. Getting it at a restaurant can be hit or miss. If you want really good Nigeria food your best bet would be to find a Nigerian mom to cook for you lol

@@AshtonnnM Hi. In Nigerian cuisine, Ogbonno soup is similar to Okro soup in the sense that they're both viscous and people actually eat Okro soup with rice and it works well together. However, I don't know if it'll be the same with Ogbonno as it's thicker and has a very strong flavour. I've personally never tried it.

Just returned from the US, San Antonio TX had a very good Nigerian shop, with almost all the exotic stuff found in Nigeria. That night we had smoked turkey, plantain, black eyed beans with pepper sauce,...and rice of course. Nigerian shop near me here in the UK, has most foods, but very expensive, Birmingham is the best for choice.

One of the things I’m so grateful for is that as an American, my taste buds are exposed to just about everything. I can honestly say I love (Mexican, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Italian, Greek, Spanish, Ethiopian, Dominican, and so much more) My favorite is Jamaican food tho. There’s just something about their use of spice and sweet and the slow cooking methods.

The spice in nigerian food is actually often habanero peppers! my mom grows them in her garden and freezes gallon bags full. she cooks it with the seed and all, she just blends them up with water and adds to the food 😂

the traditional chili is actually scotch bonnets, but Habanero's are a common substitute for Nigerians in the west because they are extremely similar because they are closely related. the only difference in taste is that scotch bonnets are sweeter

@@dreadlocdfairy no, there closely related but they are different, like I said Scotch bonnets are a bit sweeter than habanero's but they are roughly equally hot. the Habanero is the best substitute for scotch bonnets in Nigerian food. I live in Australia and can't get scotch bonnets so I use habanero's for that reason.

They screwed up the ancestral Afro-Centric American soul food also. People think that they can just fry chicken in any manner or make a batch of macaroni with a pot of underflavored greens and call it soul food. The way in which the herbs and spices are introduced and the passion of the preparation including a few inside secrets that only grandma could teach you is what made it soul food. It's called ancestral love and the music playing or the song being hummed while the food is being prepared is the ancestral heartbeat. It's been decades since I have tasted real soul food.

West African cuisine uses a lot of spices, herbs, and plant-foods that are endemic to the region, were domesticated there, and aren’t found anywhere else in the world, whereas a lot of other cuisines had more of these exchanged throughout long-distance trade.

The first mum put real effort into her analysis… and her analysis of the pepper soup is 💯 accurate! The third mum was also very bold with her tasting! And gave her honest opinion, almost like the first, sometimes even better! The second mum also did do well, but she wasn’t very forward in her tasting! She’d rather just a pinch before daring to do more! All in all, 1st and 3rd mum gave a more accurate description of their taste and preferences! Weldone Mamas!
