This video is a must for all Spanish learners up through B1 and probably up into B2 (I am somewhere in between: a B1 with apprx 4700 word vocab). The patters are gold for sure, but another great thing it does is that it gives you a realistic amount of time to say the phrase on your own before they translate; if you can beat the English translation to the punch then you're presumably good-to-go on that phrase, right? Instant reward! I've seen so many lazy-minded videos slap that translation up there right away, making sure that you have no time to think, ergo to learn, on your own. I just watched this on my exercise bike. Should finish in about 110 miles (at 14+ mph)!
@LingoDreams7 күн бұрын
Hey Jack, thanks a lot! We’re thrilled to hear you find the video useful! 😊. You’re right, the realistic pauses are designed to give you just the right amount of time to think and respond. PS. After 110 miles on that exercise bike, not only will you be in top physical shape, but your Spanish will be at a whole new level too! Keep pedaling and learning! 💪🇲🇽

The thing with mexican spanish is every mexican state has it’s own accent & dialect. Also mexican spanish has lots of indigenous influence meaning we use indigenous words that are native to that region in our spanish.
@LingoDreamsКүн бұрын
Thank you, @joeshmoe8952, for highlighting this important aspect - you are absolutely right! Indeed, every Mexican state has its own unique accents and dialects, and the indigenous influences make Mexican Spanish especially diverse and rich. 🌎😊 In our lessons, we focus on a more universal Spanish that will be understood by a wide range of learners. While we don't always concentrate on the distinctive variations from specific regions, we appreciate your insight and hope our viewers will also embrace our universal approach to language learning. 😊

So "quisiera" is not used in Mexican Spanish?
@LingoDreamsАй бұрын
Hi @jakobson219, great question! 😊 In this lesson, we focused on the phrase "I want to...", which translates to "Quiero..." in Spanish. This form is direct and commonly used in everyday situations in Mexico, making it practical and easy for beginners to apply immediately. However, you’re absolutely right that "quisiera" (which translates as "I would like") is also an important and polite way to express desires or requests. While it’s not as commonly used in casual Mexican Spanish, it’s perfect for formal situations or when you want to sound extra polite. We’ll definitely cover "quisiera" in future lessons, showing when and how to use it effectively. Thanks for pointing this out-it’s a great addition to our learning journey! 🌟

@@LingoDreamsI meant instead of "me gustaria", not "quiero"
@LingoDreamsАй бұрын
Sorry, I thought you were referring to this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpvLY4eQq9KcatE. In Mexican Spanish, both “quisiera” and “me gustaría” can be used to express a polite request or desire, but they have subtle differences in usage and nuance: Quisiera: Meaning: "I wish", “I would like” or “I would want.” Usage: “Quisiera” is the imperfect subjunctive form of the verb “querer” (to want). It is often used in more formal or polite contexts. It conveys a sense of wishfulness or hypothetical desire. Me gustaría: Meaning: “I would like.” Usage: “Me gustaría” is a conditional form of the verb “gustar” (to like). It is commonly used in everyday conversation and is slightly less formal than “quisiera.” It expresses a desire or preference in a polite manner. In our video, we used “me gustaría” because it is more commonly used in everyday conversation and is slightly less formal, making it more relatable and easier for learners to use in various contexts. It also directly translates to our pattern pattern: “I would like,” which is a straightforward way to express desires or preferences in English. I hope this helps clarify the differences and the reasoning behind the choice in your lesson! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

31:35 hablar mas despacio y hablar mas lento. Why both ?
@LingoDreams5 күн бұрын
Hi @jakegoertzen8766, great observation! Both "hablar más despacio" and "hablar más lento" mean: "to speak more slowly," but there are subtle differences in preference and context. "Hablar más despacio" - is slightly more formal and is often used when requesting clarity or politeness, making it common in professional or neutral settings. "Hablar más lento" - is a bit more conversational and informal, though still widely understood and used. Including both forms in the lesson helps learners recognize and adapt to different ways native speakers express the same idea. Both are correct and can be used interchangeably in most situations.

What Spanish is that pls, is is Spain or Mexican?
@LingoDreamsАй бұрын
Hi Lys-HadassaSaintFelix! In this particular video, we are using Mexican Spanish. We usually label our videos with “Mexican” in the title and thumbnail when using this dialect. Additionally, we include the Mexican flag symbol so viewers know which variant of Spanish is being used. All our latest videos feature Mexican Spanish. For older videos without these labels, we used European Spanish. Thanks for watching!

31:19 is this wrong? Should it be… I feel like staying home tonight Tengo ganas de quedarme en casa esta noche
@LingoDreams7 күн бұрын
@MW_1535 Thank you so much for your sharp eye and thoughtful comment! You're absolutely right that the inclusion of "esta noche" in the Spanish sentence would make it more precise to match the English phrase "I feel like staying home tonight." The version in the video isn’t entirely incorrect, but it does lack that additional detail. We appreciate you catching this nuance. It seems "tonight" in the English sentence may have slipped in unnecessarily, leading to this slight mismatch. The good news is that we've already corrected this in our latest video, a compilation of all our previous lessons, which premieres later today or tomorrow. Your feedback truly helps us improve, and it’s this kind of interaction with our audience that keeps us striving to make our content even better. Thanks again for contributing to the learning experience! 😊👏

Why are all languages so complicated apart from English
@LingoDreams5 күн бұрын
Great question, @matthewglover9188! Every language has its own unique challenges and beauty. English might feel easier to some because it's widely used and accessible. But learning any new language opens up a whole world of opportunities and experiences! 😊 It's also important to note that this feeling is subjective. For most people, their native language feels easier because they've been surrounded by it since birth. Embracing the complexity of different languages enriches our understanding of diverse cultures.

Do you speak is ‘hablas’ not ‘habla’
@LingoDreams16 күн бұрын
Thank you for your comment, @mypuppyrocksdt! 😊 You bring up a great point about the difference between “habla” and “hablas.” Here’s a quick breakdown to clarify: “Hablas” is the informal form of “you speak,” used when addressing someone you’re familiar with, like a friend, family member, or someone of a similar age. “Habla” can mean “he/she speaks” or “you speak” in a formal setting, such as when talking to someone older, a stranger, or in professional situations. Spanish has this distinction between formal and informal speech, which is a bit different from English. Both forms are correct-it just depends on the context. If you’re referring to the video, the choice of “habla” might have been intentional to showcase the formal usage or to fit a specific example. Either way, it’s wonderful to see how attentive you are to these details! I hope this explanation helps clarify, and thank you for being such an engaged learner-your passion for Spanish is inspiring!

I believe Can you in Spanish is Peudes. Puede refers to can he/she. .
@LingoDreams2 ай бұрын
Hello, Liam! 😊 Great observation! We chose "puede" instead of "puedes" because it's the formal and polite way to say "can you" in Spanish. While "puedes" works in casual settings (with friends or peers), "puede" is safer and more universally appropriate, especially when speaking to strangers or in polite situations like ordering in a restaurant or asking for help. Our goal is to teach phrases that work well in any context, so learners feel confident and respectful wherever they go. Thanks for your comment, and happy learning! 🌟
