It’s not the oldest cathedral in Latin America! The oldest cathedral in the whole Western Hemisphere is in Merida Yucatán!

¡Hola Ivan! We actually thought about this a lot before putting it in the video. The history is a little bit complicated, but there is a clarification on our website. The link to the post can be found in the description of this video, but here's the explanation: *The oldest standing cathedral in Latin America is the St. Ildephonsus Cathedral in Mérida, México and was completed in 1598. However, the original Catedral Metropolitana in Mexico City was first constructed much earlier than that, and was established as a cathedral in 1534. The Spanish later decided that the size of the original Catedral Metropolitana was too small, so they destroyed it and built the one we see today in its place. Thanks for leaving us a comment!

Ivan Corona Santo Domingo's Cathedral in Republica Dominicana is even older than San Idelfonso Cathedral in Merida City. I tell you this not as a Dominican but as a Mexican.

I really enjoyed traveling with you a while. Thanks for sharing.

Centeno thanks for the comment! We try to be as accurate as possible in our videos. The last official census at the time I’m writing this was in 2015 and states that 8,918,653 people live in Mexico City. This figure is in the Encuesta Intercensal 2015 (Consensus Survey 2015). We’re in Mexico City again now though and can try recounting for you. 😂
