When you buy something in Latin America, the sale is final. It puts a bigger burden on the purchaser to be more educated and more decisive. Like when I bought a toilet, at the register they cut open the box and inspected the contents with me onlooking. Then asked me if all good. That's because there's no returning it of one decides they don't like it, or find it "already broken" in the box. It's just how things are done. I don't know how it all nets out but this way they avoid people taking advantage of generous return policies leading to lower consumer prices. Fwiw.

Good day Jordan and May! Great video! I would like to add something about how to dress in Mexico. My husband and I lived at Lake Chapala for a year and are going back permanently this spring. One thing I learned during that year was that Mexicans dress quite conservatively and modestly unless they are going out to a special occasion. Even though it might be 85 degrees out they mostly always wear long pant and shirts/tops with sleeves (short or long) and rarely do you see a Mexican in a tank or halter style top. I learned to dress the same way to be respectful of their culture. Especially at banks and other business offices. You rarely see a woman showing her cleavage out in public (except as I said at special occasions - fancy restaurants etc) and especially if she is out on her own and not with her man. I experienced it myself. When I first got there, I wore the summer clothes that I wear in Canada and soon realized I was dressing inappropriately (not for the weather, rather for the culture.) It's totally different of course when you are at a beach town, however even there the Mexicans are usually more covered up when walking around town. When I walked around the Lake Chapala area with my husband and was dressed in something slightly revealing like a tank top or summer dress with bare shoulders and just slight cleavage that seemed okay, but if I was out on my own I would get some unapproving looks from the Mexicans (both men and women.) I would love it if May responded to this comment to see I was reading things right. 🙂

Hi Tanis! Nice to meet you! I think it depends on many factors. For example the age and where we live. I’m 33 and I Can tell you that many of the people my age don’t like showing much skin unless we are in the beach or going to a night club. I know people my age that even dress more conservative than I do and some other people my age who don’t care about showing too much. As a woman it’s also a matter of feeling safe, I feel that if I go out dressed showing so much I might be in danger, or in my experience I’d get sexual comments of man while walking in the street even just with my “normal clothes” (jeans and jacket). I believe it’s also important to know “where” is the right place to wear certain clothes and the way we were educated, my mom and all women in my family where really strict about how to dress, but again, I grew up in a very conservative family (on my dad’s side). I don’t think it’s disrespectful to wear whatever you want but if it’s too revealing definetly you can get some extra looks and if you don’t like that It can be awkward at some point.

As a mexican, I don't get why people get offended when Americans call themselves what they are... Americans... Honestly, this issue does not happen in any other continent, simply, because people don't identify themselves with a whole continent! Maybe europeans brag every once in a while about "being european" instead of saying that they are Hungarians, Letons, Maltesee, etc... If you ask me, I don't care, I don't identify myself as "American" no one ever called me or refered to me as "American" in Mexico or any other country... I don't think is a way of imposing the manifest destiny, or that Americans think they own a whole continent, they just don't have a lot of options... Is either "hi I'm a US Citizen", "hi I'm from the states" or "hi I'm American". So according to that logic Mexicans could also call themselves "from the states" or "US citizen" (since Mexico official name is also Mexican United States or Estados Unidos Mexicanos) and according to you "American". Once I met someone here in the US, I introduced myself first and told him "I'm mexican"... I knew immediately that he knew that he didn't want to say "I'm american", instead he said: "that's nice I'm from New Mexico", then I responded: "Well I guess we are both Mexicans then!" Everything is relative guys, and context matters!

What's amusing, is the (former) US (of A) is no longer the NAME of the (c. 1946) UN subcorporate "nation state." (After 1945 all presidents of the US, etc. were "sworn in" saying "US," vs. "US of A!" However the PTB don't want us to know, we are no longer FREE, nor a "sovereign" country, or individuals! AND they don't want Canadians, or Mexicans, etc. to think that way, either!!) Actually the US (of A) was bankrupted by 1870, and went into "receivership," in 1933... which they definitely don't want, people to know.

And the "America" (i.e. the continent, vs. the US) point drives those of us in the United States over perhaps the average (or younger?) aged millennials, NUTS! (And we hear this ALL the time... on YT, to MSM, etc.) Gen Xers and older were raised to say "the US," or "United States!") i.e. NOT: "American, Euopean, Asian, or African..." which is BTW a NWO (One World Order, in four quadrants) artificial "consolidation planned," construct!

Great tips over these two videos! I've been to Mexico many times, but it seems there was much that I didn't know. Further to the Rolex tip... I am a watch collector. I don't buy nice watches to impress anyone but me. If you're truly into watches, you get it, otherwise, hard to explain in a comment. My question is what types of watches would be reasonable to wear in Mexico? I have a Rolex and agree that it is too recognizable to be safely worn in much of the world. I have many other watches though, anywhere from a thousand bucks, on up to Rolex pricing. I am fine to wear a bit cheaper when in Mexico, but I am wondering on where that line is.
@TangerineTravels10 ай бұрын
I’m not sure where that line is. Maybe you can wear something that you appreciate but doesn’t look expensive like a Hamilton. The more expensive that it looks, I think the more likely you are to be a victim of a mugging or theft.
@realalexmackenzie10 ай бұрын
@@TangerineTravels Yeah, that sounds like the approach I was thinking. I have a segment of my collection allocated to watches in the Hamilton price range that I keep for wear in less affluent places. I appreciate these watches almost as much as some of the higher dollar pieces, so no great hardship. I am not concerned with the monetary loss so much as making oneself a target for a "robbery gone wrong". Anyway, thanks for the input!

I stopped wearing wristwatches of any type once I began living in Latin America. I never travel with anything I can't afford to lose. I have a $25 Chinese smart watch that I wear if I don't want to pull out my phone to check the time. And I rarely wear that. My wedding ring is a $15 titanium unit and dull. That's it. More and you invite looks.

uh? but you always see that in US before 2018, but that is past, friend. if dont believe, check Speedy Gonzales, and Nacho Libre.
