As a Mexican Citizen living in Mexico City, I do remember the issues we have had due to earthquakes and am proud of the efficiency and functionality of the earthquake early warning system. It shows what we can do when working together towards a common goal. Thanks for sharing videos as this one.

I was in Mexico city in 1985 and it felt like oscillatory first during the first 30 seconds and then it felt like trepedotary in the the following seconds!

How much time warning did you get? and do you guys have an app now for smart phones?
@clearwave94532 жыл бұрын
@@huntybaby yes in mexico there is an app that is in touch with the official early warning system. The time it took to arrive was around 30 seconds or more since the earthquake came from the state of Oaxaca and arrived to my area of Toluca Mexico state.

So no one warned the People for this one in 2017?

Millions were warned. The early-warning sirens blared in Mexico City for at least 20 seconds before the shaking began. Videos show people running out and away from vulnerable buildings before they began to shake. Twenty seconds gives much time to get to safety; even 3 seconds allows time to Duck, Cover, and Hold On. Near the epicenter there is no time to send a warning, as the seismometers are receiving the shaking and taking several seconds to process the data before the alert can be given.

IRIS Earthquake Science A lot of buildings collapsed though, that shouldn't have happened, considering 32 years have passed after the deadly M8.1. Also people were literally screaming and running aimlessly out of buildings during the earthquake when that's exactly what is not advised to do, especially if there are tall buildings around, so I think they weren't really well prepared as thought. Imagine if a M8 had hit Guerrero, it would probably have been similar to what was left in 1985.

IRIS Earthquake Science will the Guerrero earthquake have the magnitude of 8.2? Or 7.9?

Edgar C. Mendoza That can't account for the senseless reaction of people running out of buildings during the earthquake (people in Japan or Chile don't do that) or why buildings erected according to construction codes there didn't suffer any damage at all. The type of soil can't be forever an excuse.

I believe most of the collapsed buildings were pretty old buildings, following construction norms before 1985, so maybe that was the reason
