To me it's absolutely incredible that the peso has remained so strong. I really thought in 2020 that the peso (and many other currencies) would massively lose in value. They usually price their real estate in dollars anyway

What goes up must come down. I like to think that my cost of living in Mexico is the average of the past couple years. You can’t count on it remaining at any level so just enjoy the good times and ride out the bad.

Meanwhile, food pricing/ services/ rent and so forth are seriously rising in the US , shrinking the Middle Class. Walmart is NOT an affordable place anymore. I can imagine other supermarkets . I am also moving abroad. Good luck

You missed one of the main reasons for the recent decline in value. It is because AMLO is pushing for a constitutional change whereby judges are elected rather than appointed. This threatens investors confidence in Mexico's democracy.

Exactly

nah, investors now realized that buying judges will be more expensive so they're temporarily pulling out hoping mexico will stop the change.

Also it is too expensive and we need the right price for nearshoring future. One of the problems of Mexico si the judiciary system. It is a structural problem. It needs fixing. I thing interest rates have more say in the long run.

thanks for the update. i moved to Mazatlan right around when you did and within a year my rent, which was being paid in pesos, had soared. i have noticed a big fall in prices the past year and thanks for telling me why. i moved back to Ajijic and think prices, except for fresh fish, are way cheaper here even with the peso drop compared to Mazatlan. keep up the great work

It is not diving, it was too expensive before. Same price as 2018.

If I remember correctly last winter I was seeing close to the upper 16s to the dollar. The exchange rate moved quickly from January thru April

I think the main reason is the Judicial Reform being pushed through is causing the value of the pesos to decline. Some prices has come down in Mexico, but not gasoline, it's gone up.

Ok Bill, I’ve been watching this for the last couple months. Here’s what I’m wondering. Have you noticed any significant inflation in Mexico over the last say 6 months. Because if the peso tanks against the dollar, but inflation is kicking up at the same time, it doesn’t help Americans as much as it would appear. Well admittedly, I asked the question before I finished the video. 😂 You pretty much covered it. I was in Mexico for 3 1/2 months last winter. I’m trying to figure out if the prices are about the same as last winter.

I’m going to post a separate post. Obviously, we’re in a heated election here in the US. Trump and his minions claim if they get in power, their going to round up and ship out of the country about 12 million immigrants. Well, if they were to do that, I think their will be legal immigrants and even US citizens caught up in that. I believe if they do that it will tank the US economy. But here’s my question? If that was to happen, it only make sense that the people of Mexico would be very angry. I believe it would tank Mexico’s economy also. Do you think that could spread over to where the Mexican people would have great hatred towards Americans living there? I wouldn’t even put past a Trump administration even bombing Mexico because of the drug cartels. I’d appreciate your thoughts in this.

Hi Dennis, Thanks for watching, thanks for commenting. Last winter, in dollars, you were paying 25% more for everything you purchased. This winter, is much less expensive. Best, Bill
@dennisconrad61242 ай бұрын
@@BillDallasLewis Well I think that pretty much settles it then. I’m leaving Northern Maine for the winter about Oct 8th. I really wasn’t sure where I was going, but figured eventually before the winter was over I’d end up in Mexico. Since I try to live off my SS, a 25% increase in buying power would be hard to past up for 6 months.
