Mexico's answer to plastic: Forgotten plant to replace synthetic fibers

In southeastern Mexico, one plant stands out above the rest. Made from agave, ‘henequen’ was once a widespread industrial fabric, until plastics and other synthetic textiles took over.

Two varieties are there. Short Aloe shrub ( velikattalai long... Anai kattalai in Tamil. Both helps to replace plastic in Textiles Fender. In marine.

We've been working with this in Morocco since time immemorial. It's called "sabra silk" in here. And we make pillows, clothes, rugs etc...
