Wrong. You need to get past the 1970s. And the more we push them away, the more they develop relationships with the Chinese and others. U.S. soybean farmers have barely started to recover from the last tariffs...they have only reclaimed 18% of the export market they had. The reason why is when we push people(like we did to the Chinese) they simply went to the Brazilians and offered their farmers low interest loans for tractors, fertilizer, etc. since they didn't have the production capacity. So you take a competitive advantage we have and chisel away at it making your competitor stronger. Not smart, but then we're talking Trump...so yeah.

Brazil under Lula is definitely moving closer to China and China is buying tremendous amounts of Brazilian crop land, mines, rail lines, ports. I am not sure if selling assets to China in order to develop is a good thing. I guess it depends on the terms. Look at what China did to Jamaica with its toll road (the Jamaica North-South Highway); or Kenya with its passenger railroad (Mombasa-Nairobi Railway); or Sri Lank with its port (Hambantota International Port).

The trade deficit with Mexico is -$125B through Sept 2024; and -$152B in the 2023. The last trade surplus the US had was in 1994 at +$1.3B. Mexico is heavily dependent on remittances from the US. The US definitely has more leverage than Mexico.

Mexico is currently the biggest trade and manufacturing partner of the United States .at around 800 billion. We recieve 3/4 of our total count of tomatoes from Mexico.
