Hi Mey. So, you are in Greece now. It is very hot there, try to stay out of direct sunshine. A very good and educational video. I paid for an account today and need to learn all there is in order to avoid nasty surprises. Basic rule: always modify every picture, this way nobody can complain. I feel quite excited about trying my luck with CF. Have fun, and stay safe.

I am still struggling understanding the difference between Commercial Usage Allowed vs Basic POD. I have read the Creative Fabrica license info a few times to try to figure it out. It sounds like they are essentially the same thing - as long as you make modifications & have an active license that you can sell on POD. I am getting hung up on why they have the separate classification of Basic POD and it makes me think in my head that Commercial Usage graphics can't be sold via POD. I tried emailing Creative Fabrica, but haven't heard back. What is you interpretation? BTW - I signed up for the black Friday deal - All Access subscription.

That's so true. You're paying CF for the "license" to use the graphics; you don't own the "rights" to them. Once the membership ends, so does your license to use their products.

Thank you, but I am still confused. Both the Watercolor Flowers and the Reading Books screenshots show "Commercial and full POD usage allowed" under the "Download" button, but they don't have the same license. How did you know which license applied?
@MeyTribe
@MeyTribe 2 жыл бұрын
They have both licences, the licence that will apply would be the one you're using it as. If it says both and you use a flower as is- you're choosing to use the full POD one. If you're using it as a part of a design- you have chosen the commercial use one.

Hi Mey, thanks so much for trying to clarify Creative Fabrica's licensing rules for everyone. However, one thing I've just fallen foul of and I can't find it mentioned anywhere, is the difference between their subscription plans. I opted for the 'Graphics' plan, because I didn't particularly want the things offered in the other plans. I thought the only difference was what you had access to, certainly that's what it looks like on their sales page, but that is not the case. Apparently with the Graphics subscription, "you will only be able to download Basic POD products, if you want Full POD products you will have to purchase an All-Access subscription or purchase the product individually" (quote from CF's customer support email). That is a HUGE distinction and it's not mentioned anywhere on their site; not on the sales page, license summary, full text or in their help section. I only found out because I queried why I only ever saw 'Commercial usage allowed' on all the items I looked at. I'm furious at the lack of transparency, because I did 'my homework' before purchase and the information simply wasn't there. Likewise, what makes a 'new design' and therefore allowed under Basic POD/Commercial Usage or when someone's subscription expires is also questionable. For instance, recolouring doesn't make it a new design - so I think the example you gave in your interview with Linnea (animals in pockets), wouldn't be allowed unless you had an 'All Access' subscription/Full POD license and it would have to be removed if your subscription expired... Not sure if you're still checking comments on this video, but would love to know if you have anything to add. Thanks again! :)
@MeyTribe
@MeyTribe 2 жыл бұрын
I am sorry you feel that way, I don't think I ever spoke about the other subscriptions in this channel. On my call with Linnea, we spoke only about the all access pass- cause that is the one that's targeted to people wanting to do print on demand. I also mentioned that in every single CF video, and that's why also on this channel- the discount given is for the all access pass. I am not quite sure what to say, as I am not them, but I really tried in every single video to mention that this is with the all access pass, or single sale. They have other subscriptions, not just the graphics one, never mentioned them as they don't apply well for POD. I'm sorry that maybe the videos or the content on their website was misinforming, though I am not sure what else can I say other than sorry for your bad experience.
@SFN-YT
@SFN-YT 2 жыл бұрын
@@MeyTribe No need to apologise for anything, my comment wasn't a dig at you at all. Your content's great and as you say, you only talk about the all access pass. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about the other plans, but they do exist and as you've done such a thorough job, I thought the extra info might be useful to someone. Absolutely CF could do a better job with their website, but clearly that's not your fault and you do always suggest people do their own research (which is good!). However, this video is about 'Lifetime Commercial Use Rights' and specifically 'What Happens if I Cancel' - which is essentially the same license as comes with the Graphics plan. I haven't exactly had a bad experience, CF's customer support is great, I just thought the additional info was worth mentioning. I only brought up your call with Linnea, because you queried what makes a 'new' design. Great question, as that's exactly what I've been trying to figure out. However, I think the interpretation only applies while you have an active 'all access' subscription. Without it, I think the design would have to be removed, which is why I thought it was relevant to this video. I could be wrong and I do tend to overthink things, but honestly, I was trying to be helpful.
@MeyTribe

@@SFN-YT How much is the graphics membership ? I remember back at my first month i got that one, and realized I would be paying the same for the all access with the discount, but that was over a year ago. And thanks for not being mad at me... Maybe I just reacted this way cause I got some accusations from people who watched other KZbinrs saying things like "you can download 1000 graphics and cancel your membership" and then the people just comment on every CF video by any KZbinr. Sorry for thinking that... Maybe I do need to investigate that other one better. Thanks for that info :)
@SFN-YT
@SFN-YT 2 жыл бұрын
@@MeyTribe @Mey Aroyo No worries, I imagine the comments can be stressful and I think you answer every single one of them - so hats off to you!! In answer to your question, the Graphics membership is $19pm, All Access is $29. However, I did buy a 1yr subscription on an offer and was super happy...until I found out about the licensing :( I can upgrade at additional cost, but had they made it clear on their site I wouldn't have bought the subscription. I probably would have done what you did and bought the All Access on an offer...now I'm paying twice, which is annoying and to my mind, somewhat underhand. I wouldn't bother investigating the other plans, unless you want to do a click-baity 'dirty secret', 'exposed' type video... ;) I think they want everyone on All Access forever and I don't think most people realise that cancelling would mean that most of their products would have to be removed. That's what I was getting at with the 'Animals in Pockets' example - the item(s) you'd used had Full POD licensing via your all access subscription. If you cancelled your subscription you would need to buy the Full POD license or remove the design. I also thought I could add colour, combine assets, etc and that would make it a 'new' design and therefore OK under the commercial license (which is all the Graphics plan gives me), but that's not the case. That's what they told me in their email and if you rewatch your video with Linnea, that's basically what she says. Anyway, we live and learn! But none of this is on you, you're awesome and lovely! I'm overly cautious ;)

@clfrancis

Many artists also sell the same thing on many sites. My guess would be that if you are ever required to prove your licensing rights, the date of download would be very telling. Still doesn't prove date of creation. Personally, my work habits are a mess. Save as after I've saved over a file will replace the date on that file. Don't know the answer to your question, but they sure want to come across as having the upper hand to convince you of renewing your subscription. Would hate for shops to lose everything because of something the shop owner can't prove though.

@@clfrancis I also saw so many CF sellers sell on Etsy, Creative Market, and on their own sites. @@MeyTribe For proving creation date of a design, all you need to do is to make sure whenever you create a new design, you email a copy of the design to your own email (or a second email account set up specifically for this purpose) *before* uploading the design to any selling platforms. The time stamp on the email provides a definitive date for when you created the design, so you can show this email to cf if they ever queried whether the creation date falls within the subscription period. It also helps with dealing with copyright thieves, as you will always be able to prove your creation date to be earlier than any date the thieves could come up with, since you set your creation date definitively by email before you uploaded the design to any platforms where the copycats could see it. :)

Hi Brenda, I had the same question a while back and I did some research on CF site to find the answer. Each item you buy on Creative Fabrica has a license number next to it in the download section. Items you have pod rights for will have a license number that begins with pod. And if you want to make extra sure, because some items can be bought as POD or Commercial license, you can go to the bottom of the page, and under the Tools section there is a link that says License Key Validator. If you enter your license key number there, it will say if it is full POD or not.

I think that when you reached out with a question- they wanted to see the design so they can answer it with 100% certainty... Maybe that's why ? Also- selling a digital paper pack from a seamless pattern- to them it might sounded like you're selling the exact thing that the designer is selling- a digital file - which is NOT the same as using it for POD. I wouldn't sell their patterns as pattern for digital downloads... If you wanna make awesome patterns for digital downloads I'd recommend using Canva, and even graphic elements from CF. I can't fully clarify what they meant when they spoke to you, as I am not CF, but I do know that they have very different view on the pattern being sold on POD or as a pattern to download. You CAN use their elements within selling downloads, I remember doing a video a long time ago about selling printables stationery paper on Etsy using CF elements there- that they have watched and approved the usage. With a paid subscription, does CF grant actual "ownership" of what we create? That is the issue with Amazon KDP self-publishing, such as coloring books. KDP requires that we actually "own" the published content.

There is no ownership as in copyrights, only rights. Which is a major thing with KDP that so many "kdp jurus" keep ignoring. Coloring books that are allowed for KDP are ones a person actually created and selling, many people were banned from that- cause amazon doesn't like it. A designer has the right to sell you whatever you want, a platform has the rights to ask you to only upload what you made yourself. The planners that they have are meant, if I'm, not mistaken, for KDP. Meaning- the artist who made them allows you to use them as is for KDP. However, KDP doesn't allow that. and that's a big issue I'm afraid people don't understand. I think it's time I make a video on that.

I'm not sure what you're asking.... You cannot take an image you downloaded and make it bigger without it being pixlataed, you'll need an upscaler for that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXrTgJtshNhmbZY And if you're asking about the CF membership- the membership is the commercial license. If you want to use items regardless of the membership you have to buy them as a single item, and not inside the membership.

Hi Mey, I am not a native English speaker and I am not sure I understood everything What I need is to have material to start publishing POD coloring books of diverse content and I was told that I would find a lot of it in Creative Fabrica. I do not plan to subscribe but to buy single sales items from time to time since I still have to learn of to create the books, upload them in the POD platforms, etc. Questions: Did I understand well that if I have the single sales license I can sell my books using the designs as they are and modified, forever? Do I have to state that I need a full POD license?? Thanks in advance😍
@MeyTribe
@MeyTribe 2 жыл бұрын
This might be a bit more complex. Having the licence to sell something for POD doesn't mean that the platform you choose would like you to sell it there. I have heard of many people having books removed from KDP as they contain coloring interiors that are already there, on other books, which is not something Amazon wants. If you wanna sell on KDP your own coloring books- I would suggest either using different elements from CF to assemble that coloring book, OR- illustrating it yourself.

Sublimation is the technique used by a lot of POD suppliers… can’t really do a video on that without purchasing heavy machinery for sublimation… Regarding printify - printify is working with such a wide variety of suppliers, most often I’d order a test item that would never arrive cause they stopped working with that supplier and never bothered refunding orders. I'm not sure that I'm on board with these sites. You say that it's more fair for the artists when subscribers continue their subscription and that's certainly how it sounds, but do the artists you have downloaded from previously get any part of a renewal? It's my understanding that they actually do not. I created a store and uploaded just 2 listings. So far, I've made 49 cents in 5 months. lol I realize it desperately needs my attention, but I did it on a whim.

Hopefully that call with them would give both you and me clarity on that

CF has particular audience different from Design Bundles and the Creative market. The reason why CF has jumped to the top is that it gives pennies to designers even if they do not have any sales or anyone downloads their product. And the subscription plan to download all is great for buyers. So the 49 cents you got is just a reward by CF for being there, if someone downloaded your design it would be higher. I started to upload seriously in January 2022 and the first month was 12 then 26 55 49 64 and June was 54$. Every month when I uploaded more products I doubled from the previous. I have been focusing on my book series and software so I did not upload much last two months so the income is stagnant at around 50-60$. CF is all about uploading more content. And if the content is good and in demand the income will go faster. There is a segment where subscribers leave what they would like to see on CF but could not find. It is an interesting place to get ideas on what to upload next. But most importantly products must be multi useful from my experience. Something that can be used once for one thing is not going good on CF.

@@MarinaArtDesign Oh! Now that's encouraging! A lady did contact me to let me know she downloaded and favorited, so I think I have one download. lol My dashboard shows 6 followers and 6 favorites. Is there a place that that tells me number of downloads? I could get excited to move my entire gumroad store over there if that's the way it works. My stuff is all for commercial use anyway, so the concern I have over lack of payment on renewed subscriptions is more for other artists. I find the terms to be just as confusing from the creator side as it is for subscribers. Thank you to both of you for your patience and kind replies!

@@clfrancis No, unfortunately, CF has very bad interface for sellers, compared to Design Bundles. And I am in their group and everyone loves DB but to me, the only thing that is selling on DB are tumbler wrappers and crafts. And I use the same cup I got 35 years ago so I don't get that at all. I started uploading some things and DB is amazing for SEO, they have like everything under the sun to get your store going. But the buyers there are all crafters so if you are not into that, hardly expect any sales. One lady is selling empty rectangle PNG and making good money. drumroll****** - yup you guessed it right, it is a tumbler template. So Creative fabrica is not showing you the downloads, you can update name of the product and other things, you can't duplicate the listing to make it easier to add another product in the series... overall that part is not good. But the money... well I prefer to get pennies per day than zero on DB. Also, CF is all about consistency of upload and massiveness of upload (aka bundles). My biggest sellers are 10000 mazes, 10000 puzzles, and 10000 something. What I hate (*hate) is that it could be so easy to make 500$. Just go to CF and search for graphics "followers". Since CF is giving you money for every upload without having sales people are taking advantage of that and uploading "bla bla text text bla -input number bla" designs, and then they replace the number with 0-infinity and have like 9000 designs.... Why can't we be scammers and get easy money? #facepalm

I am trying to find out who is pronouncing Fabrica like you, and who is pronouncing like me, to see where it draws the origin. I wish I knew you were making this video because you could also add something very important that people just do not understand. License are one thing, what is the product is also important and changes things. If the creator shared his illustration as PNG, regardless of what licence you get you can only use that file in print products you sell, not as part of your digital product. And if the file is shared as SVG but it is of a kind that can not be modified sufficiently once again you can not use it in your digital store. So it is not one license - same application and logic to all products, it depends on the product, what is the product and in what file format the designer is sharing it.

You can use clipart from CF inside a digital item for sale.. I have made several tutorials about this. In one of my tutorials showing how to make printable stationery, I have used CF clipart. Got so many nasty comments that I must not understand the commercial use licence cause I'm from a non-native English country - and a long comment from CF saying they loved this video and how I explained it LOL There is a mention for digital items as end products in the licence. and from my conversations with CF in the past 16 months- it is def possible to use their graphics legally in a digital end product.
@MarinaArtDesign
@MarinaArtDesign 2 жыл бұрын
@@MeyTribe Yes, yes, but that is not valid for all products from all sellers. It depends on what is on the graphic. If the product is PNG or extremely specific (in my case my hand-drawn mazes) CF told me there is nothing the buyer can do with my mazes or mazes of any other seller (handdrawn) to make them acceptable to be sold as digital products, only in print. My heart mazes were taken and posted on Etsy and CF got involved and took the products down from Etsy. I am using some isometric infographics and icons from bundles that are being sold on CF, and CF told me I am not allowed to use them in digital products and if I did not have specific written permission by the designer (and I do have that).
