I have the Elites and I love mine! If anyone buys these headphones expect an extremely comfortable fit, with excellent build quality and In my opinion a smooth neutral detailed sound. But like most expensive headphones the synergy with everything in your chain can make them shine! (I'm using my PC > tubulus concentus usb > Denefrips Gaia > tubulus concentus I2S > Rockna Wavelight Dac > tubulus rca cable > Pass Labs hpa-1 > Norne SILVERGARDE S4 headphone cable > Elites.)

You are seriously my favorite headphone reviewer. Being honest and direct. Also, do you have any upgrade headphone recommendations with a similar sound to hd600/6xx. As the vocals are lovely on them. But they lack bass extension and heft to the sound. Preferably i would want a dynamic headphone. Just recently sold my Arya Stealth. Felt that its time for something new.

At this point ..you’ve reached pretty well the end of “consumer“ headphones..and their associated source chain. I’m still amazed by my LCDX 21..and yes, it’s picky on tracks and source … If endgame was a physical thing ..the Emp’s 2.0 or the Elite Tungsten would be mine. Great review . Thank you and enjoy the weekend.

I love the engineering and material choices of the elites and appreciate that they are said to be very comfy too. I own the ZMF Verite Closed but find myself drawn to the Sony Mdrz1r as I'd like a more bass focused headphone. To compliment the verite. Do you think it would be a night and day difference? On the other hand I have the pc38x for gaming and wonder if the hd800s are REALLY that much more immersive generally, or competitive in fps... Would appreciate your thoughts? Love your content BTW.
@NoThemeReviews6 ай бұрын
I’ve never heard the Verite but have read some reviews of it. Yes, based just on third hand knowledge of the Verite, the Sony will be a pretty obvious difference. The Sonys have a darker, more bassy signature. The bass isn’t boomy per se, but it’s also not particularly defined-for example, with typical planars you can hear the cleanliness and separation of sub and mid bass. That’s not the Sony way.
@DeadEyeBeaky6 ай бұрын
I don't own a planar. Perhaps I should look into the hifiman lineup. Perhaps the arya organic or the he1000se... A nice problem to have... 👍

What do you think of the opinions that Meze's Empyrean and Elites are "muffled" and lacking detail? Some of the same criticisms have been aimed at the Sendy Peacock and some of their other offerings. After demoing many said headphones, I feel like a lot it might come down to brain burn-in for people. What they think is clarity is just headphone tunings being much brighter. Personally I find the brighter headphones fatiguing and having an unnatural timbre for acoustic instruments, which is especially obvious in more intimate recordings where only a few instruments are present, the closest to a live performance.
@NoThemeReviews7 ай бұрын
My first thought to that is, compared to what? The answer gives a pretty good indication of the underlying issue. No, I don’t think the Meze are muffled. They’re no more muffled than Audeze when it comes to detail. I tend to agree that the brightness of a headphone can contribute to the perception of detail. Beyerdynamic does that, and so does the ChiFi tuning. The next question is what are they using to judge detail? It would be nice to know what tracks and specific quantifiable details they’re referring to. It’s rare to get such depth in criticism, and more often than not, the “detail” people talk about is covered in vague, barely understandable jargon. Unless we know what metrics are used to make judgments, it’s hard to take such comments seriously. They might be correct in their opinion at the end of the day, or they might not. No way to tell until they give meaningful info.

I was taken aback, and quite shocked to hear that these $4k headphones revealed 9 to 10 clear footsteps in new light. I mean, the Moondrop Blessing 3 revealed 16, like the Austrian Audio Hi-X55. Seems like a lot of money for little detail, the kind of detail you could get from the $100 NiceHCK F1 Pro.
