Fantastic review, thanks very much. Like another person suggested though, hearing what these sound like for gaming would be great too. FPS would probably have all of these as amazing, but namely normal single-player stuff would be good to hear more on. A lot of these high-end headphones dont do well for that purpose because they're either too forward or too recessed in the mids for example. The Caldera is definitely one of them (I owned them for music and gaming, and may very well sell them for that reason)

For FPS, go get a pair of AKG K702s on the cheap or a pair of HD800s on the expensive. The K702/HD800 follow the 80/20 rule on soundstage, K702 is 80% as good for 20% of the price. Both would be way cheaper than a Meze.

Nowhere close. Slightly more resolving but Atrium has an addictive timbre wich you want to hear again and again. Empy 2 will not do that.

Having heard both of these at CJ, the Elite beats it handily for being more unique and more technically impressive. Empy II is too safe relative to the rest of their lineup, and it still doesn't warrant the price point technically.

What I can see from the measurements an EQ bass shelf with the Alcantara pads would be interesting to hear, have you try that?

Love the comparisons with the he-1000se as I’ve been thinking of going for that as my detail monster headphone. I have an Empy 2 and a Caldera currently. So anyway, great job!

May I ask, what are your use cases for both The Caldera and empy 2 ? I have the Caldera and contemplating empy 2 but not sure what I would use them for over the Caldera

@@mikylenaidoo1779 I honestly couldn’t find one. I wanted to give the Empys a try and while that are a great set, I got rid of them cause the Caldera does virtually everything better. Empy II wins in bass slam and comfort, but it’s Caldera in everything else.

Great review man! Personally my favorite is the OG Empyrean, (I wish you make a review with the OG Empy to….🙂🙏🏻) very unique, organic and lively sound. With Gustard R26 dac is even better, huge soundstage. For gaming what pads is the best for Meze Elite?

I currently own Hifiman Edition XS. Due to my new job, and other factors, I've decided it's time to start giving serious thought about the next step. Giving it some thought, and reading/asking around, I decided the next step after the Edition XS is The Endgame. Something high end from Meze. Something that looks as good as it sounds. Something that will last forever, and fetch a pretty penny at my Estate Sale, when I have no kids to pass them down to. 😂For awhile, i wanted the Elites because they were a bit brighter than the original Empyrean. Now, it's the Empyrean II that are a bit brighter, and I like a more sparkly sound so Empyrean II it is. Thanks for saving me $1000! Maybe I'll get the 109 Pro as a bonus now! 🤣

the driver in the Emp2 is actually the MZ3V2, the Elites use the MZ3SE and the original Empyrean uses the MZ3, i have no idea what the differences are.

I know people buy these expensive cans not exclusively for gaming, but since I discovered your channel through gaming content, why isn't there a gaming section? I mean if I have the money, I want to know the endgame upgrade path and don't want to spend that much if these are comparable with cheap gaming headsets in that area.

There will probably always be something in the pipeline, cant really fall for the FOMO especially when the Empy 1 is still a valid option. Also Meze has been dropping 1 big release per year essentially, so I wouldn't expect and Elite 2 for at minimum 1-2 years

Regarding the Emp II. being quieter despite being more sensitive - it’s likely because the ears are farther from the drivers due to deeper earpads.

The sensitivity of the Elite is 101 dB (1 mW / 1 kHz), the specifications of the Empyrean II relate to 1V and you will find 105 dB SPL @ 1 kHz, 1 V on the official Meze Homepage. If you calculate this to mW, you will receive 90 dB (1mW / 1 kHz), so it is clear that the Empyrean II is not so loud as the Elite at the same level.
