Marvel Comics recently published their first Doctor Doom comic since the year 2000. The first lines in the entire comic read: "living off of borrowed time, the clock ticks faster." Fly high, Daniel.

0:52 has to be one of my favorite musical moments ever. Madlib brings in that bass at _exactly_ the right moment, when the listener has had enough time to get accustomed to just the drums and sample. Then all of a sudden it's complimented flawlessly by that lo-fi bass tone. Gives me chills and a stupid grin on my face every single time.

@harmless3449 Жыл бұрын
I think it hits so nicely because it comes in during the second bar of the measure, instead of the first where you'd expect it to. You also hear the second half of the bassline first. Then the next measure gives you the full phrase. It's like hearing the response to a question and only getting to hear what the question was after the fact. It works both rhythmically and thematically. Madlib doesn't miss.

This video is fucking perfect. The surreal cinematography, the fact that the entire video seems to be in black and white, aside from one ominous red door, the haunting accordion matching DOOM’s deep, gravelly voice, the depressing lyrics, the sudden cuts, the woman dancing in the back, the man who made the sample for this song playing the accordion in the back, the way MF DOOM shakes his mic around, the shot of the camera moving back from the accordion player, and the shot of him raising his hands to the beat at the start, it all adds up to this video just having a feel you dont get with a lot of media, let alone a 2 minute long music video. What I’m saying is that not only is accordion a musical and lyrical masterpiece, but a visual one as well. This song, album, and MF DOOM as an artist were and are truly once in a lifetime. How DOOM and Madlib managed to make an album this perfect will never cease to amaze me. REST IN POWER MF DOOM 1971-2020

DOOM was the kind of artist who should've received an endowment. That is, if our country cared about its arts and culture. He sacrificed nothing for success. He straight up did HIS thing, and no one else's, for no one but himself. He also could properly identify greatness in his field (harder than it appears), and he competed not for bitches and fandom but for true supremacy amongst those others who knew...just what it meant to be the best. I'm more into the rock guitar world, and in that arena the guy I can think of who comes closest is Jeff Beck. Not the most commercial or stupid good songs, but he's done shit with his playing over his career that makes you realize he never stopped trying to both get better and also let his buddies Clapton and Page know who was best. That's the kind of spirit DOOM reminds me of. I'm glad my friends introduced me to his work in college.

"When he at the mic you don't go next" That verse could be interpreted in so many ways. The man was a total genius.
@ryandr74703 жыл бұрын
I’m not hating but what ways can that be interpreted
@jf59263 жыл бұрын
@@ryandr7470 Well a lot of people say it means that he’s so good at the mic that there is no point to even go after him. But I think it means that ain’t nobody going after him because it all ends with him, he’s the headliner, the main event. He’s the one people are going to see. No different than Drake, all of artists open up for Drake but at the end of the night the main even is Drake performing and after his performance nobody else is going to perform after because the show will be over. And you could apply the same logic to sports like Floyd Mayweather hes the main event of a boxing match and after his match of the night ain’t anymore for the night because it all ends with him. Look at Drake ,Floyd Mayweather, Tupac, Mike Tyson they are all the crème de la crème of their fields and the show ends with them. So when “they are at the mic you don’t go next” because you’re not on their level so you will only open up for them but never go after them. And MF DOOM was in the same realm like these guys , so when he was at the mic nobody went next, Because he’s the best of the best.

In a world where everyone flaunts they own self, DOOM cared deeply about sound and not image. Slowly but surely he created an army of DOOM bots, an army that cared above all else for the art of rhyming and poetry. He was the supervillain... You never knew where he was. The truth is that he was everywhere all at once. His physical body may has perished, but the Mask remains forever... He achieved his supervillainous goal in the end, seeding our minds with art itself. DOOM is an IDEA. An idea that has guided us through our journey, and now it is a part of all of us. It is in us forever. MF DOOM DIDNT DIE YALL, WE ARE MF DOOM! Having said all that, rest in peace to the man, Daniel Dumile, your manifestations will live forever... He rests easy in the land of milk and honey with the swirls where reckless naked girls get necklaces of pearls...
