I had a cherry-red Framus Hollywood single cut away in the 1970s. I wish I still had it.

I have an old framus Hollywood short scale starbass with sliding pickup that i bought in ajunk shop for four pounds in about 74ish it was red with a black neck i lent it to a friend and when i got it back he'd painted it black and changed the tuners i was livid over the years its been strung as a tenor guitar,a banjo but mostly a bass its battle scarred but still plays well best four quid i ever spent lol😊

Lovely guitar, and exellent demo. Wish I could play mine that well..... my jobbing-musician uncle bought me my first electric back in the early 1960s in London. and it was a red sunburst Hollywood , but with a single sliding pickup. Unfortunately, being a young schholboy, I didn't have a decent amp-and my Framus came with flat-wound strings. Very lacking in sparkle, and I parted with it after a couple of years instead of doing the sensible thing and changing to 'conventional' strings. Regretted it every since, and a few months ago managed to acquire an identical shape and colour sunburst Hollywood on ebay, which came with the same 3-pickup setup as yours rather than my original slider. Sadly two of the original pickups were replacements, so I took the decision to convert this one to a slider as I had originally had, using the sole original Framus pickup. Works wonderfully, plays beautifully-and sounds so 1960s, which I love! The tailpiece is different on mine, since it has the optional tremolo arm fitted, although I never use it. Keeps tune brilliantly, and so lively and light to play-makes a change from my Strats!

it`s endless fun to play the old Framus Hollywood guitars. So easy to play and you can get a lot of different sounds out of it. Love it to play Blues with her.

I had a 59' Hi Fi Six. The truss rod non functional but the sound and everything was really interesting. I gave it away to a student guitarist. Wish I had not.

Hi Michael- are you in Australia? The Framus in this clip is identical to one I had stolen from my house in Kensington, Sydney, while I was at work one day. They left behind the fitted pasteboard case which it came in. That was in 1972. It's ok, I'm not after your lovely example, but I wish I still had mine :(

yes, I'm in Brisbane. This one I found in Cobargo, I was told it was owned by a student who bought it home from Spain. I even have the original pasteboard case with it!

@@MichaelFix Thanks for your reply, Michael- I'm sure it's not mine, but I've seen a lot of "Hollywoods" on KZbin, and very few have three pickups. They don't always have the sunburst either. That's a pretty rare guitar! I remember mine had a very floppy neck, no whammy bar required!

I really dig this guitar - where on earth did you buy it??? Great tonal combinations, and with bass and treble controls instead of tone controls - genius!! I found it on the site you linked below (I can't paste the address here for some reason). Even though it's semi hollow, it's found under "electrics" on the Framus site. Model is actually 5/132 Hollywood, not 5/130. Thanks for the "show and tell!"

I found that web site a little while ago but my guitar is different than the models shown. Probably because of the options available at the time. But at least I found out how to date my guitar (a 67F so it's a 1967 made in june). I couldn't find anything else with the serial number. I guess I'll have to go to their museum to figure it out..lol

That sounds great through all your pedals and amp. I have a reissue made in Korea. It sounds very much the same. I’m in Brisbane too. I need to sell mine but really don’t want to. Do you know anyone who would be interested? (hope it’s appropriate to ask 🤭)

I have a Hollywood reissue from 2011 with just 2 pickups. I love the sound of this Framus, too and I think, with a bit of distortion or overdrive this guitar sounds similar to Brian May's guitar, doesn't it? Anyway, so the tuneomatic does fit well or does it need some work? I have the original bridge on the reissue. At the momment the intonation and all is fine, but I think, the older the guitar gets, the more it will vary, I think. Here is the original website of Framus, you can even order parts for the guitars. www.framus-vintage.de/en/
