Love them!! EMD’s and K5LLA horns. They look fantastic. One can’t have more reasons to love a locomotive!!!!! if only they didn’t have so many quiet zones in Chicago area.

I just had a flash-back to rail fanning in the 40's and 50's. All anybody wanted to take a picture of, were the shiny-new F-Unit's, right off the assembly line. GP7's were still a gleam in some draftsman's eye. And heaven help the guy with his camera in his hand, if he wanted a picture of an F-Unit, and some dirty old steam engine got in the way. "Why bother to take a picture of them? They've been around forever, and they're never gonna go away". I'm glad for every trip to work and back behind some E-Unit Remember E-Unit's? Wish I'd taken more pictures at the time.

I love the HT-C trucks. Love the signature EMD windshields. The deco is okay (Metra in black kind of dies for me). The one thing that really bothers me is the imitation gyra-lite using LEDs.
@ELcinegatto87Ай бұрын
Great video, I really liked the drone shots. Very nice looking loco, anything other than a boring gevo or alstom/siemens eurotrash is a win in my book. The "modern" EMD diesel has such a distinct sound, much better than the dead silent euro diesels starting to take over. These are slightly "tamed" in noise/emissions compared to the old GP40-2 90s rebuilds Transit still has around here in NJ, but very much the same type of sound. A much more traditional livery for Metra as well. I gotta say though, that random mound of snow on the tracks was really sus. Careful out there man.

What a beautiful locomotive Metra's new SD70MACH is! Thanks for posting your series of videos here - you really do capture the FEEL of Metra out in the world it serves. I'm curious: What is the story behind the beautiful paint job on Metra bilevel coach 7801? The color scheme seems to match the one on our featured SD70MACH locomotive. To me, it's pretty obvious that that particular paint scheme won't (can't) be applied to the ribbed-sided stainless-steel fleet in front of and behind bilevel 7801, which is smooth-sided. Where did 7801 come from and when and by whom was it built? Is it a hand-me-down from Caltrain, which is in the process of replacing its fleet of diesel-powered bilevel commuter trains with their brand-new electric-powered Stadler trains?

Seems impracticable to use a six axle freight locomotive for commuter trains. Caught one of these being delivered through Nappanee, IN earlier this year. They look nice, but to me, impracticable.
@SamLovesTrains8 ай бұрын
They’ve used 6 axles previously on their trains (F40Cs, E8s and E9s for example), so it’s not a new concept for Metra. The MACHs might also eliminate the need to have two units double-heading, which occurs on select trains during the week. I’ve heard they’re surprisingly quick units for their big size, with only 4 of the axles powered.

Good video, but I gotta ask why breach the grade crossing gates to get a good shot of the incoming train? This gives us fellow railfans a bad look in the eyes of the locomotive engineer and conductor. They already have their hands full with operating the 🚆 train without trying to second guess what a railfan holding a video camera or smartphone is doing beyond the crossing gate..... We can railfan with respect and safety for those who work the trains in this great industry we admire, the railroad industry......

That track dip in the first seconds ist just unbearable. And when is the US finalling ditching the Diesel Locomotives and electrifying the railroad network FFS. We in the old world can afford power lines above the tracks and therefore we get stuff like the Siemens Vectron. And if we somehow run out of power lines, there is the Vectron DualMode or the Stadler EuroDual etc. Compared to the latest gen Euro Locomotives, that SD70MACH thing looks like a Dinosaur from the 1960s. The SD70MACH according to wikipedia is remanufactured to decrease emissions. Welp, wouldnt be a thing if it was for electricity...
