As I said in another video, the shield needs the solid fist drilled out and clamped around the holding handle to hold it in place. It also needs the shield to be balanced on the left-foot's toe-spikes. I actually glued magnets into the spikes and the bottom extension of the shield to hold the shield in place, and it does NOT shift from there, even if I shake it with a reasonable modicum of force. I regularly pose it on a stand, in flight-mode, Bazooka out, and the shield stays as I pose it, even facing down.

Knowing Bandai they might pull this one into their relaunch MG's, like the Rx-78 that was released. even still I'm sure there would be a way to mount the sheild, perhaps with a clear white bit holding it off the ground, etc.

Actually, the HGUC version holds its shield extremely well. The arm joints are more than strong enough to hold the weight. In fact, all the joints of the HGUC are extremely tight, making them very strong, but hard to put together (plus I worry they might break if used too much). Overall, if you like the design, and are curious about the HGUC, then by all means get it. My only complaint is that it takes a ton of paint to look good. Otherwise, pure awesomeness! ^_^

Great review, I'd really like to see Bandai retool this kit and make a 2.0 version of it. With as far as the master grades have come these days, I think they could really iron out the problems that the original suffers from.

Well its 2024 and unfortunately, Bandai never came through. However China has been going wild with the third party kits and a company called solomon has basically released a mgex version that’s to die for.

This was the first master grade I ever built. Yeah, the shield is impossible to work with. I found it possible to balance the shield off the left toe and have the suit actually hold it that way. I also hated those ball joints on the arms. I was glad to see on other MGs I've built that the design didn't stick.

i just glued the movable left hand the GP-02A came with around the handle for the sheild. it still pops out of the wrist, but at least it wont fall out of the hand.

I built my MG GP02a Physalis as usual and painted various areas on the feet and the back of the shield, when i turned the shield grip around the other half of the atomic bazooka did not come off and it can hold it's shield above ground and resting on it's right leg, great kit for the Stardust memory fans or the Gundam.

i found that with the GP02A he can hold the shield, you just have to balance it on his feet and tilt the hand back, so the handle of the shield rests between his palm and thumb.

The GP02A is designed by Shoji Kawamori, Seravee Gundam was designed by Takayuki Yanase.

Even Gundam Wing brought Gundam back into the US limelight, I always saw Gundam Physalis as a pretty badass MS! :D BTW, was this model kit pre-painted or did you have to add the outlines and decals yourself?

have you considered resting the base of the shield on the foot? that ought to work. also, could you do a demo vid on applying the dry labels? i tried to put some on my brother's MS-06S and failed miserably. plus i have a gm ver 2.0 on the way and i want to do it justice

The cellophane from a label from a bottle of soda should strengthen that ball joint I've actually had to use that trick on a few gundam model back in the day where the joints wouldn't stick together really well

I question if he saw the 0083 series; before making claims of the others taking GP-02. The thing made 80% of a 100k capital ship formation disappear! The rest were on fire or falling into the Earths Atmosphere :P. ONE SHOT from that bazooka! And was able to keep up to the much faster GP-01 before and after the FB mods.

I have the HGUC Gp02.... It is an agrivating falling apart mech. the shield is so aggravating I usually just pose it with the bazooka, a beam saber and one of the rocket packs (I have the MLRS version) I recently bought the MG in hopes that it is better.

It's really annoying that they didn't bother to fix the issue concerning massive weapons/accessories that the kit can't support. Said issue is still present today in Gundam Virtue.

@Seekingtrue But honestly its a great kit for its price however make sure to buy its variant the physalis as its the same model but with the addition of the badass rocket launcher backpack and a beam bazooka instead of the atomic one but with "practically" the same look.

u r suppose to insert the hand into the hole in the shield.The palm of the left hand should be facing the gundam. It is slide sliding the hand into the hole of the shield.Then, u rest it on the foot.

This is, bar none, my favorite gundam. It's a shame the kit is very limited, just like the action figure of it I got so long ago. If I go after this kit, it will be after I've obtained others that I want...unless they release a new version.

@NovaHyou the HGUC one was a huge improvement on the overall design as i just built it this last month. I will warn you though the hand DOESNT hold the shield well at all unless you brace it on some part of the body or by working with it for like 5min. The only thing i hated about the HGUC model was the horribly shitty hand that made me want to stab the designer
