Just ordered a Trophy in “dogs home” blue 😂. Having tested a wide range of EVs, for the price I couldn’t beat it, nicer to drive and quieter than a Kona Premium, way better than a Zoe, not quite as good as a Kia Nero, but way cheaper once you match the spec. Nicer than a Peugeot 208 and cheaper too. As for the ID3, theMG felt better built and finished. I thought it was comfortable, the “pleather “ seat material felt no worse than the Tesla M3 either. Overall it was the best value for money and the associated compromises were no big deal in my opinion. The others are not £5k to £13k better either. Now all I’ve got to do is wait until March.

Surely we should be encouraging more cars at the low end. Sorry Nicki but I don't buy into your take on this car. Many people just want something to get them from A to B in relative comfort with space for whatever they might need to carry. The ZS does this perfectly. We've had the previous ZS model for 18 months. It's done it's job very well, taking our large dog or 2 sets of golf clubs with trolleys or family to the beach or Granny to the hospital etc. etc. The new model seems to offer all the extras our car doesn't have so is a very attractive proposition especially as a quick look online finds that our existing car is worth almost what we paid for it - because it's a good car that does exactly what it says on the tin. And by the way, it is flat loading with the seats down when the boot floor is in the higher position, which gives a substantial and useful space underneath. I was becoming a fan of this channel, but you've just given me doubts, and that's sad...

I side with most of the other comments. This review seems to focus on the looks and quality of materials. If you want "sexy" looks and quality materials in a practical family sized EV you will have to pay at least twice the price. The selling points of the MG are long range, comprehensive safety features and a 'bargain' price. You should be testing if these claims are true and comparing it to other offerings at a similar price rather than lamenting that it is not as sporty or sexy as other more expensive cars. Tom Ford's review of the MG5 EV on this channel is a brilliant example of how to review a value for money car that does not try to be anything else.

A disappointingly negative review. Looking at the range of EV's currently available, if you want a truly family car at a sub £30k price point there's surprisingly little choice. I should clarify that for me a family car needs to have room for teenagers/adults in the back and also a decent sized boot - this really does eliminate MOST of the competition. Whilst I agree that the infotainment is FAR from the best, it has a good DAB radio and android auto/apple carplay built in. Also, the safety features are excellent e.g. blind-side warning, front collision warnings and it goes on. The MG pilot software - self drive stuff - also includes Adaptive Cruise Control, which is blooming marvellous. And then there's the panoramic roof with HUGE sunroof. Once you've had one of these bad boys, it's going to be difficult to do without - the light that comes into the large cabin is fab. I appreciate the higher driving position and the excellent all-round visibility. Note: NO lumbar support adjustment on seats but my back doesn't seem to suffer. By the way, I've owned the previous model for a year and a half and I am VERY happy with it. With respect to Nikki, she has NOT understood this car at all. It's a well equipped, spacious family car for those of us with more limited funds e.g. most of us!

Seem to have improved all the important bits, and I think you were being a bit harsh throughout, I mean in posh cars fake leather is called 'vegan leather', but here it's 'vinyl'? Some good upgrades over the current version we have. I like the app, wireless phone charge and charging port light. Would like the cruise control to use regen vs brakes. Seems like good value for money in the EV context A question for anyone else in the UK who is retired with an occupational pension. The growth in EV sales is massively driven by the income tax advantages of getting one via your business or your employer. With a benefit in kind tax of 1% rising to 2% next year it is much more tax efficient to have an EV compared with an ICE or cash. So thinking about the salary sacrifice route, why would it not be possible to sacrifice some pension, instead of earnings, and be taxed on an EV in the same way as employed people are? I do know there is Employer NI on the benefit but that can't be a big deal to sort out - meaning it would not apply to pensioners. We retired folk need the financial advantages of EV ownership too but the income tax savings do not seem to be available to us. Maybe I should write to my MofP !

My employer moved by office to 20 miles further away from work yet after a small subsidy for two the first two years doesn't offer any any help with transport. I test drove a Long range trophy and was very impressed by the kit and quality. I was less impressed by the indicated 208 miles of range at 100% charge (and outside was 0 degrees c). So it does seem your mileage may vary (literally). Based on your 3.5 miles per kw and a useable 68kw battery that’s 238 miles. So sadly not enough range for me. Otherwise I’d have got one.
@alastairgoffey60732 жыл бұрын
Range does vary, depends on how they're driven, think of range like you would in your ICE car, drive fast and hard your range will be lower than if you drive steadily and slower, to be fair, if you're driving long range you plug it in when you stop for the loo/food and you don't lose any time really (experiences may vary!). Also, test drive cars always have crap range as people rag them so consequently EV cars will show poor miles per kW, noticed when I test drove it first time it was averaging 3.8mpkw and the second time when I took the kids to test the rear seats and ride for them that the average was 3.1mpkw!

Feel this is an overly critical review of the MG and almost snobby, Oh and the odd lumps in the boot are obviously the wheel wells which almost every car has, and to compare the boot to a Skoda Enyaq is a cheap shot considering the Enyaq a full Size SUV, The tyre screech pulling off from stand still is easily sorted with a better rubber compound and wider section tyre, 245 width can be fitted with ease. The biggest thing you didn't touch on enough is the amount of tech given to the car at this price range. Think a better comparison would be a Hyundai Kona EV

I'll do my own review since I have this car in England and one of the first to get it over here and I've had it enough time to give a non biased review. The car itself it way ahead of the last one since this is what I upgraded it from. We have a baby in a big car seat and can still fit 2 people in the back without it being uncomfortable for them. For the price you pay Its hard to argue with something like this what comes with almost everything. Driving it obviously isn't that sporty but for a family car I can drive this for hours without any fuss. The China comments are funny considering half the world own something from China and chances are ur typing ur review with an iPhone. The downside of the car would be the wheels from the outside and no heated steering wheel which would of put the cherry on top. I have the silver car and it's stunning the LED front lights also make it great along with the app to control the heating. A long range dated kia sportage without a sun roof I was quoted around 600 a month from kia based on a small deposit. With MG it was 480.. the new kia will be better without a doubt but for the few 100 less a month payments I'd still choose the mg zs. I do feel like this review is abit unfair considering this has more extras and more range than a peugot e2008 and is yet lower in price in terms of monthly payments.

Connect also gives you more functionality with the app. We've just ordered an trophy connect as the quality of MG isn't really far behind at all and in fact it surpasses some other manufacturers in certain areas. One area I was very surprised with was the quality of the paint finish. It made an id3 and some other vag group cars look like they'd been painted by a child😳

The paint finish is amazing, much better than the orange peel on more premium brands

Practicaility??? Seems like as your obviously an ICE fan and not an EV one when you give the next poor review of an EV there is a book called a dictionary Oxford has made them for literally hundreds of years.

After watching this review I would not trust your opinion, you seem obsessed with the colour and is it sexy and cool, I have watched other women reviewing cars and they see a car for what it is and not a fashion accessory.

Such a disappointing review. So many little digs and jibes, to put down a decent vehicle. Her crux is, "European is better".

The charger could’ve been placed in the centre behind the MG logo.

It was on the previous model however, users found not that easy to use according to what I heard.

Am I the only one that cares about a spare wheel? Deal Breaker. I think this one has space for one to be added as an option. Geez, optional! Have a think about the scenario where a loved one is on a country road with a flat. Then, even if the green goop is used to get you going, the tyre repair guys say they can't repair a goop'd tyre as they can't clean it out properly. Their adhesives wont then work properly so the simple repair turns into a throw-away. Please all authorities, make it mandatory to sell every car with spare wheel & tyre!

Didn't MG bung you any money to at least be pleasant about it. Learn about torque steer and the content on the steering being heavy on sport, check other reviewers saying the steering is too light.
@Electrifyingcom2 жыл бұрын
I fear you are in a minority EV-W. Spare wheels have been disappearing for years as car makers seek to save weight and add space. Most driver who have a puncture these days will simply call a breakdown service.

I do wish we’d at least have the option of fabric seats. They’re cheaper than leather and much better quality imo. No squeaks or cold bum!

I've ordered a Trophy in white and I'm a little concerned about the one-pedal-driving, or lack thereof mentioned in this review. I'm coming from a BMW i3 which nails this... anyone got any experience from a test drive? Haven't been able to book one yet.

Take the review with a pinch of salt. If it ain't Tesla it ain't good is what this channel is all about.

Mg doesn’t do 1 pedal driving to a stop the last few mph need to use brake or it trundles along. It has traffic jam assist that does all the stop start without using the pedals.

Defo not one peddle driving like the bm but reasonable retardation in position 3 Just test drove one and ordered one 😀

Sent my 2020 model back to dealers kept breaking down with a hv battery fail warning and the car just shut off it happened 3 times and broke down 5 times might have just been that one car but could not trust it no more.
@evornotev77942 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. Our 2020 model has been fine with no issues. I've also been driving a new Nissan Leaf recently and had problems with the infotainment system not booting up and the Nissan is quite a lot more to buy. I'd have the MG ZS over the Leaf anytime...

MG Ev was a good car when we had it, only had it for 3 months but to many problems and we needed some more reliable with us having to travel to chester. Went back to diesal for a short period of time but is was costing to much so got the phev. Very happy now

Looks good, but still got the annoying polished chrome trim on the steering wheel, as per the MG5. As its circular your'e guaranteed to get reflected sun in your eyes when the sun is beside you. Thought car designers were wise to this years ago.. obviously not in china!

MG or Skoda Enyaq? Well Skoda is over £40k for a base model. The MG is loaded, for way less. And basing it against a BMW. It's not fair. It's an MG, it's quiet, frugal and cheaper than some petrol powered rivals. The vegans will be happy with the pleather seats. It's got a Better interior than a VW!! Well that's good enough for me. Middle-class school mum badge snob review!

The Skoda IV 60 is 32250 after plug in grant. The only Enyaq to qualify for the grant. This doesn't even have heated seats or leather or fake leather! It's pretty basic. Even the Enyaq 80 heated seats is an option! Something I think is a necessity in an electric car, not to mention a car with a retail price over £32k.
@nathanstevful2 жыл бұрын
Also the 60 is a 58.8kw net battery with 255 range! So the MG has it beaten In that regard as well.

Hmmm... I do think you've been WAY over-critical on an EV of this size and range at such an incredibly competitive price (at least in EV terms) The 'competition', as you kept referring to, at this price point would be tiny, supermini-class cars like the Corsa-e or 208 - minuscule back seats and boot space, plus a 200 mile range, if you drive like a Nun...! The ICE community have been crying out for more affordable EV family cars so they can switch to save the planet and their wallets - MG give you one (with a 7 year warranty, no less...!) and you slate it...??? Know your target audience...
