5 years ago while working on my EV after a few beers, I teased Damien in the comments for his melodic accent pronouncing "three" as "tree". Ever since, he sacrifices his Irish on the altar of pronunciation pedantry and pronounces his TH's the non-Irish way. And every time it makes me feel like I bullied him and took a piece of his soul. But also, it brings me back to that moment when I had the giggles. ... I wonder to what degree reverse engineering won't be possible too far into the future if the trend of proprietary chips continues to grow :(

Excessively nice work, really appreciate your deep-dive and revealing / highlighting (and occasionally defusing) the landmines that industry is is laying ahead of us. Time for an open source car O/S (from display to drivers). Maybe there's already such a thing? I'm out of my field here...

Yes the Altera Max series are CLPDs. Also the combination of infineon and Altera stinks of Siemens industrial. I suspect they are behind most of these electric car inverters.

Can you not just control the inverter via CANBUS externally? Or does it have security/immobiliser to stop this ?

Complexity management if an important engineering skill. I would rather have a small micro receiving commands from the 'big' micro using a CAN or uart interface. Program the micro (at the gate driver) to factor in the temperatures locally. Or how about the Tesla Cybertruck with drive by wire? Imagine getting auto cabling that is flat, with a consistent reliable connector system that is learn once, use everywhere forever. (and available from DigiKey and Mouser)
