Vanessa Hudgens bared her soul some more in our recent interview with her to launch her documentary with the working title “The Awakening” directed by Paul Soriano. Among other topics, Vanessa proudly paid tribute to her Filipina mother, Gina Guangco from Surigao del Sur; her yearning to know more about the Philippines and establish a home base here; and her goal to become a voice for the voiceless in her future film projects.
Vanessa also expressed her joy at the recent inroads of Asian artists in Hollywood, the latest at the Oscars where several Asian artists were recognized. Much more, she extolled the kindness, hospitality, humility and other virtues of the Filipino people. “It was my mother who first showed me that,” said Vanessa who is still floored by her recent official designation as Philippines global tourism ambassador
“I feel not worthy!,” she said. “But I am also lucky, honored and privileged because the Philippines is a magical incredibly special place so I’m glad to share that with the world! But I need more time to explore the country!”
