Great video as always. Lovely BGT and bit of trivia, being on an E plate it would be rare as E plate registrations were short lived (Jan - July 67) when the DVLC changed to August registration (opposed to January change over) with the F plate. Keep posting! 👍

Thanks for the comment! That’s interesting about ‘E’ registrations, didn’t know that!

That’s really interesting, as my MGB is also on an E plate

Beutiful car, you do well getting it onto that drive! What sort of cover do you use? It isn't really practical for me to rent a garage for mine and I'm a bit wary of car covers and the damage they can potentially do - any tips?
@DavidUKesb4 жыл бұрын
I use an Eclipse cover and am very pleased with it. Cost about £140. I keep it on all year round as there are so many places that water collects on an MGB GT. No issues with the paintwork, but I clay, polish, wax and gloss once a year. As well as making the bodywork look great I'm sure it protects from any issues that long term cover use may cause. I wouldn't use a cheap cover though.
@granblogismo4 жыл бұрын
Yes a high quality cover is a must and needs to be breathable so moisture can escape if condensation builds, also only use a cover on a clean and preferably waxed car so that dirt doesn’t scratch the paint, never had an issue with damage but I am particular about making sure the car is spotless before putting it on. I use the storm force ones at about 120-150 pounds a go but they do wear out eventually so need replacing to maintain their effectiveness

@@granblogismo Great, thanks. I bought my car late in the winter and bought a cheap cover just until the worst of the wet weather passed, but I wouldn't want to use it for a whole winter. I'll get something good quality.

You were right about the rear lines below the boot but they were there on all gt models similar to the sill lines it is just were those panels met.
@granblogismo4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I thought that was the case but looking at pictures online it seems that only later cars seem to have it, either that or a lot of the cars have had work or the photo was at an angle that didn’t show the line clearly 🤷🏻♂️

granblogismo I think it’s similar to the top of the wings being smoothed over. It’s cheaper to bodge it unfortunately

Looks in good condition. Do you keep the MGB under cover when not driving it then? How long have you stored it outside for?
@granblogismo4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I tend to keep it under a car cover in the worst of winter weather but keep it outside and cleaned regularly in the summer months, I’d love to have a garage but property prices where I live are fairly steep so not an option for me at the moment, hopefully in a couple of years though 🤞

Greetings from Canada! Thanks for the video, some very good points on bodywork here. I have a Blaze '72 GT that is a rolling resto project and summer daily driver. I think the MGB GT is a very practical, usable, and affordable classic car that is easy to work on and very reliable once sorted. Perhaps we shouldn't let the secret out! Cheers!
@granblogismo4 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree! Perhaps I shouldn’t advertise that, you’re right! Yours sounds good, nice that you get to use it regularly, something which mine suffers with is infrequent use!

Interesting about the sill joint. Didn't know that. I thought Pininfarina did the design on the GT after the in house design couldn't get it right (as their brief was to use the normal roadster windscreen)
@granblogismo4 жыл бұрын
Hi Stuart, I think the whole pininfarina thing has been hyped up a bit, as much as I’d like to claim it was styled by pininfarina apparently it was an in house design that was only slightly tweaked by pininfarina, I guess it depends on the source of info, maybe Abingdon played down the Italian input since they didn’t want to be discredited 🤷🏻♂️

Very nice GT. I have a 68 MGC GT that I am presently restoring. Keep Safe. From California USA.
@granblogismo4 жыл бұрын
Nice! I do like the MGC, is it a full resto or just a bit of TLC? I saw one in ‘Grampian Grey’ once with a red interior and it looked 😍

@@granblogismo Hi It will be a ground up restoration back to it's original British Racing green. The motor is back from the machine shop and has been reassembled. The body has been completely disassembled and is waiting to go to the body shop. The quarinteen here in California has that on hold. Getting some parts for the MGC are a little harder to find than MGBs. I have to admit I am a MGB Hoarder. In my collection I have a 68 tartan red, 71 old English white, 79 Inca gold , 79 Limited edition black and 80 black. All of the cars have been completely disassembled and have had ground up restorations with the exception of the 80. That need a full restoration after it's last restoration 33 years ago. It's on the list after the MGC and my father's 79 MGB. All my MGBs are convertibles. Thanks Luis

@@granblogismo I just retired at the end of 2019. Now that I have a lot of free time and Lord willing I am planning on making some KZbin how to MGB restoration videos.

Wow excellent! Sounds like you have quite a fleet there!!! Good luck with the restorations although it sounds like you’re well practiced 🤣 Also, I can highly recommend making videos for KZbin, although I do find the on-camera stuff hard as I’m not exactly a natural presenter I find it’s really satisfying to get feedback and also a good motivator to get things done!

I know you made this vid 4 years or so ago - in regard to the rear end (and the rear bumper) on your MG, it is missing the 'quarter' plates at each end of the bumper where it meets rear bodywork under the lights. Yours has a 'triangular' gap into the void where these plates would have gone. Which may have credence to rear end damage you mention, as many period body shops would not have bothered to replace them as they'd have seen them as a minor incidental piece of trim 'out of sight out of mid' so to speak.

Questions about the cloth sunroof; lots of UK GTs have them. Zero U.S. cars do. I love sunroofs. Are the UK ones factory or aftermarket? Doesn’t help the appearance but when the rain stops.....great stuff, thanks!
@reedrickborn4 жыл бұрын
It's aftermarket. A company called Webasto still makes a kit for the GT. I don't know if anyone fits them in the U.S. but they do in the U.K.
@granblogismo4 жыл бұрын
That’s right Webasto is a popular one and some fitted by dealers from new, Britax is another make of them and what I have in mine, I’ve had both in different cars and the Webasto seemed better made in my opinion

My US 1970 GT has one made by Golde. I quite like it considering how warm it can get in the cockpit. I don't know if it was added after market. The guy I bought it from thought it was original.
