Hi Mark, thanks for posting these great videos. I can see there is a lot of effort put into them and they are high quality. The info on the MGB is very informative and enjoyable, keep up the good work. 👏👏

Very instructive once again! Well done. Just a tip re the oil change it's a good idea to replace the copper washer on the drain plug with a new one as the old one can become a little squashed re tightening up the sump plug in past (if its not been replaced), allowing minor oil leaks from the sump plug. Secondly I use disposable gloves for oil changes etc as there is debate about carcinogenic properties of used engine oil.

Enjoying this series of videos, good camerawork too. Just a tip on lubricating locks, oil works but graphite is very much better - oil tends to attract dirt where as a dry graphite does not. There are going to be lots of well maintained MG's after the current situation is over!

Oh right! Never used that before, will have to try it out, cheers for the comment, I think you’re right about the maintenance we’ve all been doing, I’ve seen some very highly polished classics on the road in the last couple of weeks 😂👍

I've been watching your videos since I bought a 1967 MGB GT, a few weeks ago.. Apparently, it is what was called a special over here. They threw some stuff at it like spoke wheels, a Les Leston wheel, and whitewall tyres (because America) Mine has been equipped with a Weber 45 DCOE carb. I noticed you run one of those. I've been told it's a racing carb and hard to live with on a driver car. What are your thoughts? Your car seems to like it just fine... I'm very impressed with the quality of your videos, thanks for doing this thing...

Hi! Bit late in replying, sorry about that! Your MGB sounds cool! With regard to the carb I would say that overall I do like it mainly for the sound and it does pull well at full throttle but the downside of the Weber that I've found is that at part throttle it doesn't always seem that happy. It might because I don't have any vacuum advance on mine or if the jetting is wrong but that's just my experience, also I don't think they are quite as good fuel economy wise, but like I say, love the sound and I like the fact it has something a bit race-y about it, it is a sports car after all!

@@granblogismo I absolutely believe in doing "sporty" mods, especially if they are period. My car was owned by someone who obviously was into rally or possibly scca events. It has a rear anti-sway bar that looks like it was installed by a person, not the factory. It looks great, but I have no idea if it actually does anything or if it's good, because I haven't been able to really drive the car yet. Yet. LOL and it's making me crazy. I also don't have vacuum advance on my distributor, and I don't like that. I think it's going to get some vacuum advance. Like with a new distributor. Lol

The first service is the hardest! My grease gun got stuck on the nipple and I had to unscrew the nozzle and leave it stuck to the car. Eventually it fell off...

Since you have electronic ignition once you set the timing you don't have to set it again. If you have a B with points as they wear the timing changes. I have found swapping out those grease fitting every once and a while has it's advantages because they get clogged, plus they're inexpensive. When you change the gearbox oil get a funnel with a hose so you can stand outside the car while you top it up, because it goes in slow. Like the video's I even been tempted to buy an XK8.

Thanks for the advice! Very useful! Yes I think I’m ok on the ignition front but didn’t have anything to film ☹️ I’ve ordered some more of those grease fittings so should be up and running again soon! Also, I have one of those large oil syringes with a hose so hopefully makes the gearbox refill a bit easier🤷🏻♂️ Glad I’ve tempted you into XK8 ownership 🤣 I love mine!

A topic for you to discuss on your KZbin channel would be the new E10 petrol/fuel and how it affects the MGB.

Sounds like a good idea, I don’t know anything about that but will have to do some research 👍

Haha! Thanks, I’m no mechanic that’s for sure but most jobs seem fairly straight forward on the ‘B, I might go one further with a suspension rebuild this winter but only if I’m feeling brave!

These are great, thank you for doing them! Do you have a suggested brand or link to a recommended grease gun + lithium grease?

I've watched all three parts. You had the wheels off but never lubed the splines. Isn't that in the handbook?
@granblogismo4 жыл бұрын
Aha! Good point! My handbook is a seventies one so it has different paragraphs for bolt on vs. wire so I must have missed it, I’ve not finished the series yet so I’ll mention in a subsequent video 👍 thanks!!

How do you know if there's already sufficient grease in the suspension as it's not like the oil level in the rear diff where you can see/feel if it needs topping up? Cheers
@granblogismo4 жыл бұрын
I don’t think there is a ‘level’ as such just needs greasing regularly, you’ll know if there is plenty as it starts coming out of the joints!!

@@granblogismo thanks for the videos- what grease gun kit did you buy as i am thinking of getting one.. suggestions welcome.
@granblogismo4 жыл бұрын
The grease gun I got was just a draper one, called something like ‘draper heavy duty pistol action grease gun’ from Amazon. I replaced the standard pipe with an optional flexible one sold separately which makes it easier to reach trickier grease points, I also purchased a better ‘coupler’ called a ‘g.coupler’ or something which makes it 10x easier to get on/off a grease nipple without damaging anything 👍

What's your carb/filter setup?

Hi, it’s a Weber 45 DCOE (twin choke) with a K&N filter, attached using an Oselli inlet manifold

Should really wear gloves when dealing with old engine oil. It is nasty stuff

Yes! Totally right, I need to get a big box of gloves really, on the shopping list!
