Half my family is originally from here (Strahan), my dad and grandad running one of the wheatbelts, eventually leaving for Perth due to the decline in education opportunities for kids (for me and my older bros) and poor farming seasons. Visited my Grandma who also lived there, every year for a couple weeks from 3-14 y/o. Really is such a beautiful little town and I do remember when there used to be a lot more people and a bigger community. I live in Sydney now but went on holiday in 2022, driving through Ongerup to visit family in Esperance. Was quite an emotional and nostalgic experience to see it all again after so many years. I really hope the community develops again to what it was because I wouldn’t be who I am today without knowing the kind, humble, tight-knit, and extremely hard working people of Ongerup, as well as just the beauty of the true Aussie outback farms and nature. I plan to keep visiting even though none of my family are there anymore, as it is truly a gorgeous and relaxing place.

Thanks for sharing your expereinces. This is a bit of an old video now and not very well done. I hope to get out that way again and update it and add more information about the history of the area.

great video. I just been upto to Dongara in april 2018 and what a great place too. the history and the old pubs. cant get that on an overseas trip !!!

As it happens we are in Dongara today and we love the place. It is also one of the most RV friendly towns in W.A.

I went there today but it was closed. It used to have one horse living there but it died.
