MGM-31 Pershing, oder auch Pershingrakete

Die MGM-31 Pershing, oder auch einfach Pershingrakete, war eine ballistische militärische Rakete der Zeit des Kalten Krieges aus US-amerikanischer Produktion. Benannt war die Feststoffrakete nach dem US-General des Ersten Weltkrieges John Joseph Pershing. In Deutschland ist von den Pershing-Raketen primär der Typ Pershing II durch den NATO-Doppelbeschluss bekannt geworden. Gegen dessen Stationierung protestierte die westdeutsche Friedensbewegung Anfang der 1980er Jahre.

Wow! That brings back memories! Where did you find that video?? I was in 'Ammo Platoon', HHB, 1/81BN, 56TH FA Pershing, in Neu Ulm Germany. We rode all over southern Germany in those little pickup trucks. Thanks for posting that!

What year I was there with HQ battery in 90? Loved working and living there. Super cool town always lots to do and if not heading down to Capo's bar!

@@CampagnoloChick Hey bro! I was there in '84 and '85. Glad to say I did my part in 56thFA getting the "Superior Unit Award". Neu Ulm was a nice little place to be, glad to have been there. Even went back with my wife in 2013 during a little vacation to Germany and Austria. I was an 11B, did a lot aggressor work on the firing batteries when they went to the woods. Fun stuff!

@@infantryshooter I was a wrench working in the motor pool. Think one of the most surreal things I ever did was go out to the site they kept the warheads and have to do the inspection on the trailers. Walking down the ramp into the bunkers and hearing the gieger counter start to click being held by the NBC guy when we walked into the bunker was surreal as heck. Never will forget that moment.

I was NCO of the 3th. Platoon, 1th. Squadron, Missile wing 1, Landsberg/Lech. One of the german units. QRA was located near Kempten.

Can you answer a question for me? I mean if you know the facts that is. At first the Pershing was based on a TEL based on a modified M113 infantry carrier vehicle. But after awhile they switched the TEL to what we see here. A wheeled tractor and a trailer. Do you have any idea why that was done?
