In a column of water in the Great Lakes, colder, deeper water generally holds more oxygen than the warmer, shallower water. This phenomenon occurs due to the following reasons: Temperature and Solubility: Colder water can hold more dissolved gases, including oxygen, compared to warmer water. As water temperature decreases, its capacity to retain oxygen increases. Thermocline: The thermocline is a layer in the water column where the temperature changes rapidly with depth. Below the thermocline, water is typically much colder and can hold more oxygen. Stratification: During the warmer months, the Great Lakes often stratify into layers with a warmer epilimnion (upper layer), a thermocline (middle layer), and a colder hypolimnion (lower layer). The hypolimnion, being colder, holds more oxygen. The difference in oxygen content between cold and warm water can be significant. For instance, at 0°C (32°F), water can hold about 14.6 mg/L of dissolved oxygen, while at 20°C (68°F), it can hold only about 9.1 mg/L. This means that colder water can hold approximately 60% more oxygen than warmer water. However, it's important to note that biological and chemical processes also affect oxygen levels. For example, deeper water may have less oxygen if it is not mixed well and if there is high biological oxygen demand due to decomposition. Overall, the colder, deeper water in the Great Lakes holds more oxygen than the warmer, shallower water, potentially by a significant margin depending on the temperature differences. (I think this is different from what you were saying)

That’s backwards of everything I’ve researched. Here is a good article that’s fishing based. www.bassresource.com/fishing/thermocline.html

This sounds correct from what I’ve studied in Geology and chemistry.
