Had one of these style MGW shifters on my former GT500. Literally the only thing that made that transmissions shift and not grind gears... most of the time. Looking for a Camaro, and if I go manual its getting a MGW shifter. No question about it.

Do you need to remove the trans cross member and support the trans with a jack or can you just loosen the bolts and lower the trans an inch or so? Otherwise, great video.

Maybe it was just my 2010 SS manual and the Hurst billet shifter, but maybe that’s why the Hurst short shifter tends to feel so much more rough and vibrates and rattles as well. They give you a few small squares of sound deadening adhesive, but I have yet to try it out. Some people use it and some don’t. The rattling is starting to drive me nuts, but I might use foam in the interior, where it won’t melt like with the undercarriage. The 2-pc shifter assembly also rattles all the way up to the lock nut for the (resin?) ball shift knob. I was planning on swapping back to the stock shift knob, but that thing rotates so much, that it annoys me and would probably make me miss shifts with such a stiff shifter. There are also rubber pads to put in between the locking grooves, which is a TERRIBLE idea if you ask me; but if I ever did use red Loc-tite on the shifter handle bolts….

My center linkage pin didn't have enough room to slide out it was a horrible struggle followed the steps in the video not sure what went wrong but it was an absolute pain in the ass the rest of the install went fine

I have a 2013 LS V6 an hate the shifting will this throw in gears better? And will it even work on my v6? 2nd an 3rd grind more than i would like an im shifting dam near perfect. I want a clean smooth shift an you guys were recommended to me.

grinding is internal and from bad syncros or poor clutch disengagement so a shifter might not solve these issues.

@@MGWINC well if I did go ahead with a shifter an pray it's not anything major would this work on my 2013 v6 6 speed? When I select before adding to cart it says v8 transmission so do u guys have one for the v6?

Would LOVE to finish my install, but can't get the pins out at the @15:38 mark with the crappy provided allen wrench.

hope you were able to get it done. Not sure how a simple l shaped allen key can be described as crappy. lol..its a simple pin tool to press the clip. I have installed over a 100 shifters using it and yes some are a bitch but its not the allen wrenches fault. some pins are just a royal PITA!!

@@MGWINC I had to get a pick tool to get the extra leverage. I was working off of ramps, so getting adequate leverage was next to impossible even though I was able to get both hands up on both sides. Just waiting for my boot to finish setting on the boot frame and I'll be all set. 2016 Chevy SS

the 2015 does not have threads on the body but rather a clamp screw at the bottom. if you order it with the oem knob for zl1 it will work. same handle as the z28...which is 2012-2015

we do not have a v6 option at this time. it was discontinued about a year ago due to lack of demand. we actually are in discussion with a shop trying to get a min group buy together for another small run though.

no just lower it just like in the video. you do not have to remove the trans...just lower it a few inches with a jack or trans support.

They are engineered to be the threshold that the synchros can handle. We dont just pick a throw reduction for marketing purposes like some companies do but actually track and endurance test our vehicles for many many months. The throw is the best for the gen 5 for smoothness and no 2nd gear grinding.
