MH3U - Advanced tips and tactics: Long Sword

I love that capcom's still supporting mh3u with promotions and videos and stuff. This series looks like it'll be really good as well, even though I know most of these tips lol (have been playing way too long). If it matters, it's seeing all these youtubers playing mh, and the Unity videos, that made me wanna convince a friend to get the game and do another playthrough. keep it up! and bring mh4 pretty please?

BemaniAK A lot of people might use multiple sets, or just want to know a bit more about a weapon before they decide to craft it to try using it against a monster (maybe they want to go for a fight still at their current level). Knowing some basic stuff like this can help out a lot of hunters who are just about to start using the weapon. I use Hammer, GS and DS and want to try the Long Sword but didnt want to craft a powerful one till I got an idea if it would be for me or not. This video helped me decide that I do want to give it a try.

The Azura Rathalos X Armour set is super good for Long Swords, with Mind's Eye, Critical Eye +3, Earplugs (Which if using gems you can always get it to HG Earplugs) and if you're like me, you use a talisman with Bombardier so when using the Brachydios Long Sword your slime will do more damage, which is always a bonus

Been playing this game for about a month now, and quite intensly. Have done a fair bit of research, but this video contains a good bit of information I was unaware of, such as how the fade slash is more than just a slashing back-hop (seriously, I never knew this) and that you could use X attacks inbetween the spirit combo. I really need to give Longsword another go now, since it's really one of my lesser weapons right now.

Also if you guys dont know, if you have the first section of that lower meter filled and you are sprinting if (while sprinting) you press A and X (sorry im on the 3ds) you can consume some of the bar for a special unsheathing attack.

I wasn't aware of the fade out of the spirit combo, nice! I need hammer tips though. Rank HR 56 and still not good at hammering >.

here's a tip for you now :p the 2nd lvl hammer charge (the upward strike) is VERY good for breaking a monsters face as well as KOing them, and on top of that it can knock monsters that fly low (rathian, rathalos, qurupeco etc.) right out of the sky

I love the long sword! But I didn't even know that u could use 'x' between attacks during the 'spirit combo'. I will definitely use that now!

The fade slash out of a spirit finisher was actually something I've never knew, and hell I have 507 hours in MH4U at full g rank

I've always been wondering. Can the Fade Slash trip certain monsters when they are charging? I've seen in a Heroics Alatreon video of someone doing that and tripping Alatreon. I'm not certain if it's because of the boosted attack or the monster was near a stagger point. I've also tripped a Barioth doing a Fade Slash when it did its dive bomb attack, but again I'm not certain if it's because it was near a stagger point.

Thats easy its because of the ankles if you ceep hiting a barioth ankles it has,a high chance of falling

If you drop divine blessing (or another skill) you have plenty of options, but its impossible otherwise

I know for a fact that I'm really, really, reeeeeaaaaaalllllyyyy late to the party, but I believe that that's the Gobul Longsword, you probably didn't notice the fact that it existed because you never looked for it, but having seen the sns (the shield is so rubbery smooth, and then you draw your sword) it seems like a believable gobul Ls design

I have play more than 7000 hours on this game (probably a lot more) and i was able to enter rank G myself with any help (solo and no contact with the comunity). And all of this is bacics technics, nothing is advance, just the basics mechanics of the katana/long sword. I know that's totaly useless to say that 4 years after lefting the game for mh4u (wich i don't like at all) and mhgen, the 3 on 3ds. But i just want to say it

by far the most op and noob friendly weapon in the game. too many pros. not enough cons.

Eh...not really. If any weapon is the most op, it's one of the ranged weapons, the lance, or the gunlance with EASE (the Bow has my vote for op). The longsword lost much of its op-ness (?) when they made it so that the meter which indicates your level starts decreasing. Add that to lower power, ok element, certain times when frames hinder you, lack of any guarding and/or defense boost, and you've got yourself a fairly balanced-out weapon. The pros do speak for themselves mostly, but they are also fairly-well matched by the cons.
