I never thought of going at it like that. I've always handled Teostra with a lot of avoiding and getting behind him. I'll be giving that a shot. Great video!

First time I'm seeing the Kanji for Teostra's name. Is he really called Emperor of the Burning/Searing Flame in Japanese? If so that's awesome.
@lukehuang42259 жыл бұрын
Yes mate, that's what the kanji in title means. it is actually a description instead of its name. The quest is called "the emperor of scorching fire". Monsters in MH are usually called in katakana which is identical to their Name in English. People normally call it "テオ(teo)" for short or "炎王龍"in kanji, which can be interpret to "fire emperor wyvern"
GAHT DAMN HE/SHE IS GOOD! Got me motivated to point guard even more now lol

4:20 how do you regular block into super? This can't be a GP, right? Can someone clarify?
@Kelbitron8 жыл бұрын
Press X+A after the block, you'll do a super. Works the same as with GP. Though you probably already figured this out lol Only difference between blocking and GP is the Stun damage, the guard potency and the way to activate it, after that the mechanics should all work the same way.

It seems Chris uses normal guarding as well as guard points sometimes. What is the advantage of using guard point over normal guarding? I know it gives a phial blast and some ko damage, but is that all? Maybe the risk of a failed guard point outweighs the benefits of guard point sometimes and is that the reason Chris uses normal guarding in certain cases?
@kovapls9 жыл бұрын
a Guard points push the strength of your guard up another stage. AFAIK, a guard point done with a shield charged should make the blocking strength higher than a lancer's.
@celestialspark56979 жыл бұрын
AJ Waters Yes and no. By default, the CB's guard is exactly equal to a Greatsword's in every way, with equal knockback thresholds and equal amount of sharpness loss for each knockback threshold (1/2/10). Charging the shield raises knockback resistance by 10, the same as a level of Guard. The CB's guard, with the shield charged, is equal to the lance's when it comes to the large knockback threshold, but 10 points weaker when it comes to the difference between low and medium knockback. A guard point raises knockback resistance by 5--it's like half a guard level. So the CB can never get up to the level of lance/gunlance when it comes to blocking a 55 knockback attack, although this level of knockback is pretty rare. However, it can be better than lance/gunlance when it comes to a 70 knockback attack such as the Tigrex family super roar. The CB alone can reduce this to medium knockback, making it possible to block the double version of this attack without losing all your stamina and getting hit by the second roar (plus not taking the 25% damage the large knockback fails to block from the first attack and instead only taking minor damage).

Blocking with a guard point instead of a normal guard makes your guard stronger. You get pushed back less, making it easier to follow up with a Super Burst. Thus, guard points are superior to a regular guard for blocking an attack that would normally push you back. However, some attacks don't push you back very much or at all in the first place, and for these attacks specifically, there's no real reason to use a guard point over a regular guard, as either one works and they give roughly the same effect in relation to that particular attack. In these cases, it can sometimes be safer to use a regular guard over a guard point so as to avoid any risk of getting hit.

1:01 what was that after Axe-to-Sword? Did he do the Sword-to-Axe? So that was End GP of AtoS plus Start GP of StoA? Makes sense, linking two GPs right after the other to get a longer GP. EDIT: And it's not all GPs, some are regular guards too.
@celestialspark56979 жыл бұрын
ferofax Think he is regular guarding sometimes when he does not think he can block the charge on reaction. As for that one instance, yes, it is axe-to-sword, sword-to-axe. If you leave the axe-to-sword morph to time out, there is actually a window after the end of the GP where you character resets to idle and you will not be guarding even if you hold R after the morph, so linking these GPs is essential if your timing on the axe-to-sword morph was a tiny bit early.
@ferofax9 жыл бұрын
Celestial Spark So you *can* link those two guard-points! I suspected they could, but monsters always seem to get through to me whenever I attempt that.
@CronosXIIII7 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's practically impossible to GP Teostra's charge on reaction from that distance, so he just blocks. I mean I can GP Tigrex's charge from point blank easy, but Teostra is way too hard. There's no tell.
