im a plastic manufacturer owner... we dont do this for recycle because of the toxic gases it emits and the contaminating residual that it produce. This is called pirolisis and its very bad. Most plastics can be recycle up to 7 times without loosing much of its carecteristics. Then you disolve them in acid. Not good, but more clean, much more clean

For cars, definitely mix some acetone, paint thinner or methanol (old school antifreeze) to make it higher octane. There are even videos of people running petrol engines on reducers. As usual, use a biodigestor or sawdust stove (mine burns for half a day) to save time from refueling during distillation. As a sheet metal man, I could turn sheet metal into a tub or make sawdust stoves as wide as I want them to be. I worked with mechanics next door many times by the way.

Man i have a question for You, since the oil industry in My country was distroyed, we have access to a very low quality fuel, very low octane, and it's mixed with diesel most of the time. It is destroying our engines. My question is, can i mix it with thinner in order to improve the performance of the fuel.

@@frankmujik9618 30 yrs experience. Real experience, not internet experience. yes. There are plenty of videos on how to make urr own fuel easily. Also any 190 proof whiskey will add the lost octane or use racing fuel, JP8 jet fuel etc. Too low causes knock, and knock causes u to spend 1200.00 on a used engine to replace the blown up old 1. The oil n gas hit here in Pa around 2007. I left for Marines and Dad said they was hiring anybody they could find cause there was so much work. Now my beautiful country setting is filled with bad roads from all trucks, rent is sky high, u can't drive anywhere and make time cause u always behind a oil, gas well semi of some kind. And ppl getting cancer so much I don't know any 1 who hasn't lost family to it, is going through it, or has died from it. It's alarming. 2 ppl I know personally wasn't feeling well, went to Dr, 1 was in 40s and died on a week of esophagus cancer, 1 from liver cancer, and my buddy Jake lived 6 months after he got diagnosed. It was a small tumor and then just went wild and he wasted away and died 6 months later. That's a very common case here for everyone. Why? All its done is ruin land, lives and made a few rich. That's it. Gas is high, oil products are high and oils in alot of stuff we use daily, rent and homes are insanely high etc. Sad. Very sad. and not a dam thing we can do but just take it.

Yes you can, @@frankmujik9618! Mix your fuel with alcohol to increase its octane by a bit, mix your fuel with toluene (paint thinner) to increase it by a lot. Be careful with toluene though, that stuff is highly toxic and your car might fail emissions if you mix too much in. Ethanol has an RON octane rating of 109, toluene has an RON of 121.
@Theoverthinker81
@Theoverthinker81 Жыл бұрын
The process produces about 10% gas which can be used in a feedback loop so no wood needed to burn. You cannot use this fuel (naphtha) directly as petrol because the octane ratio is incorrect. It's needs to be reformed first and ideally additives mixed in with it.

Hydrocarbons. Petrol is variations of hydrocarbons. These range from benzene, toluene and various mineral spirits. They'll be mixtures of a few. You can mix and match once you have a few details easily measured with each fraction. Such a simple system isn't really cracking the various fractions though. Something more approximating a fractionating column could be employed on a scale though. The water cooling was hardly worthy of the name. I'd have cooling jackets and running water at least. Also some better seal. The best part of this is the concept is demonstrated at its most basic level. People with the knowledge can improve on this manifold and increase efficiency maybe ten times over without too much effort. Not that much by volume, but some, but above all in separating different BP hydrocarbons at least.

Depends on the engine. Then you'd experiment with various mixtures of the different fractions, maybe a bit of some additive and no reason why not. It would take a little experimenting. I used to run a work van I used for photocopier services in the liquid copier days and the developer, which was isooctane would run the van when I ran of fuel on those outback roads and long trips as happened sometimes. Engines are more finicky now. Older engines with carburetors that can easily be adjusted for the mixture of air and fuel.

It is not a good idea at all, the amount of energy that must be applied for the reaction to occur is not compensated at all with the gasoline that was created. its always best to melt the plastic and mold it into another object. because either you end up using a lot of fuel either firewood gas or electricity for the conversion. In addition, when you burn you are generating carbon monoxide and dioxide, which pollutes more than the plastic itself.

How much plastic is needed for 1 liter of fuel?
@Twogreenfeet
@Twogreenfeet Жыл бұрын
It looks like about 40 gallons of uncrushed or shredded plastic soda bottles made about 1 litter.

Its important to note that using a grinder on any enclosed container that previously carried a combustible product is extremely dangerous if your container has not been completely drained, and the fumes have not been fully evaporated. Always exercise caution when cutting open a barrel with a grinder. I know for some this is common sense but for somebody who lacks experience this is how you end up on an episode of Ridiculousness.

Strap one of these to chimney that would already be in use and get double use from the firewood. You could also use a secondary burner under the burn chamber that utilities the gas byproduct with a burner to increase efficiency and decreases the emissions . A Fresnel lens could work well as a heat source too!

Does it work with used tires? You could even use a tire to heat it.

Nope its rubber. The reason plastic is able to be broken down to combustible state is because plastics are a petroleum product.

@@christianhudspeth3338 i wouldn’t recommend trying either as rubber has really harsh chemicals like bromine in it that cause acid rain and give you hella cancer

Something like this? kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y32noaGifLyrna8 Technically yes I guess but to maximize efficiency, I'd rather to add small amount of fuel to reach 450~800℃. Heat from a solar mirror can only make it around 400℃ which is bare minimal for plastic pyrolysis. Not to mention, heat insulation will also be a problem. However, 400℃ is also good enough for fractal distillation process.

Maintain temps in the pyro reactor is pretty critical or youll produce parfin based naptha. If done correctly you can make diesel fuel after refining the fuel oil produced.

I would be more effective if the barrel was place horizontally and the top of the barrel is shaped like a cone with 2 separate hose. One with a gas membrane to power the barrel fire and the other hose with a small diameter to collect the fuel. Increase the water level and add a constant cold water flow to get a cleaner fuel. It uses same process to extract gas petrol and diesel from heavy oil. Plastic is a petroleum product except for bio plastic.
