For cars, definitely mix some acetone, paint thinner or methanol (old school antifreeze) to make it higher octane. There are even videos of people running petrol engines on reducers. As usual, use a biodigestor or sawdust stove (mine burns for half a day) to save time from refueling during distillation. As a sheet metal man, I could turn sheet metal into a tub or make sawdust stoves as wide as I want them to be. I worked with mechanics next door many times by the way.

Also any 190 proof whiskey will add the lost octane or use racing fuel, JP8 jet fuel etc. Too low causes knock, and knock causes u to spend 1200.00 on a used engine to replace the blown up old 1. The oil n gas hit here in Pa around 2007. I left for Marines and Dad said they was hiring anybody they could find cause there was so much work. Yes you can, @@frankmujik9618! Mix your fuel with alcohol to increase its octane by a bit, mix your fuel with toluene (paint thinner) to increase it by a lot. Be careful with toluene though, that stuff is highly toxic and your car might fail emissions if you mix too much in. Ethanol has an RON octane rating of 109, toluene has an RON of 121.
@Theoverthinker81 Жыл бұрын
The process produces about 10% gas which can be used in a feedback loop so no wood needed to burn. You cannot use this fuel (naphtha) directly as petrol because the octane ratio is incorrect. It's needs to be reformed first and ideally additives mixed in with it.

Hydrocarbons. Petrol is variations of hydrocarbons. These range from benzene, toluene and various mineral spirits. They'll be mixtures of a few. You can mix and match once you have a few details easily measured with each fraction. Such a simple system isn't really cracking the various fractions though. Something more approximating a fractionating column could be employed on a scale though. The water cooling was hardly worthy of the name. I'd have cooling jackets and running water at least. Also some better seal. The best part of this is the concept is demonstrated at its most basic level. People with the knowledge can improve on this manifold and increase efficiency maybe ten times over without too much effort. Not that much by volume, but some, but above all in separating different BP hydrocarbons at least.

I would be more effective if the barrel was place horizontally and the top of the barrel is shaped like a cone with 2 separate hose. One with a gas membrane to power the barrel fire and the other hose with a small diameter to collect the fuel. Increase the water level and add a constant cold water flow to get a cleaner fuel. It uses same process to extract gas petrol and diesel from heavy oil. Plastic is a petroleum product except for bio plastic.
