If you want an in-depth explanation, just watch Saiyan Scholars videos about Z Broly. There's like 2 I think? Anyways, on to my reasoning. I like Z Broly because he's an absolute monster & and is just fun to watch & play as in video games. In his first film, he did something that no other villain had done at that point. Absolutely, & brutality, beat down 4 Super Saiyans & a Super Nemekian. Broly brought prestige back to the Super Saiyan Legend. At least, in DBZ Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan. Broly Second Coming is the film that turned him into a meme. Broly at his best is in the first film & at his worst in the second. As for the 3rd...it's not even Broly it's just a clone. When comparing Z Broly & DBS Broly, I have to say DBS is obviously more sympathetic as we get to see him when he's not violent. Both are great to watch but I'd have to say, Z shows off Legendary Super Saiyan so much better. In Z, he uses this form to absolutely trash the other super saiyans. But in Super, he gets 3, maybe 4, hits in before Gogeta goes Blue & becomes untouchable for the rest of the film. Seriously go watch that fight; as soon as Gogeta goes Blue, Broly can't even touch him. As for worst character? My mom had us watch cartoons from the 60s & 70s when my younger siblings were little kids. You wanna talk about terrible characters, check those out. I'm not trying to start an argument & I don't want animosity between us. I love both Brolys, just in different ways. I'm curious, what series got you into Dragon Ball? For me it was GT.

Man I remember Broly from dbz. His first movie was how I was introduced to dbz in the first place. My Uncle and me even watched all the seasons. And even afterwards I went online and continued where we left off from the season finale and started dbgt. I was also an absalon fan...for a bit until it became somewhat of a red flag. The Super came out a few years ago. Man that was an amazing journey through dragon ball z. It got me started on anime in the first place. Fun times!

While DBS Broly is leagues above Z Broly in power, I don't see him invoking the same type of fear. DBS Broly is a wild berserker but deep down he's still good natured & lacks the malicious intent of Z Broly. Z Broly is a sadistic psychopath. He enjoys bringing pain, destruction, & death wherever he goes. Someone who has lost their senses & has gone berserk is terrifying. But not to the same degree as someone the deliberate causes pain & enjoys it.

If your basing a psychopath based off of trauma then Gohan qualifies. And believe me, Broly's experienced trauma. Secondly, the fact that you said that, makes me assume you've never actually watched the movie. What happened on the day Broly was born? Oh yeah! He got stabbed. His planet was also blown up that day, while he was on it. The only reason him & Paragus survived was because Broly instinctually formed a barrier to protect himself, along with his father. How was his upbringing? Probably not good. His father became afraid of his power & put a mind control device on him when he was a teenager, & then used him to conquer a weaker race so he could exact his vengeance on Vegeta. After Broly was free from his control, Paragus was ready to let him die while he escaped. On the note of Goku; Broly didn't even recognize him as the crying baby until after Goku put his fist into his chest, where he was stabbed. The initial animosity Broly has towards Goku is mainly due to their status & saiyan nature. Broly is the Legendary Super saiyan, the pinnacle of saiyans. And Goku, a low class warrior, is not only extremely powerful as well but is not refusing to back down. It's only because of Paragus's mind control that Broly doesn't attack him at first. In the Japanese dub, Paragus states it's Goku's power that has awakened him. Here's the thing that a lot of people don't get because they don't actually pay attention to the film. Broly isn't a dumb brute, that shouts "Kakarot" constantly. Once he is released & fully in control, he says Kakarot two times early on & after tanking a Kamehameha, he calls him Goku doesn't call him Kakarot at all afterwards. Broly's not dumb. Unfortunately, the sequel film takes very little from the first film & makes Broly a dumb brute that says Kakarot & one sentence. That film is where that meme came from. The 3rd one, it's a clone so it's not even Broly. When I compare DBZ & DBS Broly, I am using the films Dragon Ball Z: Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan & Dragon Ball Super Broly, & none of the others. God this is long.
