MHGU: LBG/HBG Tutorial

Hopefully, this isn't redundant information, but here is a hot tip with the HBG in Valor mode. There is the worry that you have to deal with the long unsheathing animation with the HBG after each valor evade. However, there is a way to circumvent that. If you hit the X button as you do the valor evasion animation you will do an additional roll that will cancel the sheathing. This makes getting into Valor mode so much easier.

I think people need to take how 'good' a particular style is for a weapon, with a grain of salt. In the end, if you enjoy playing a particular style (and aren't trying to speed-run) then play it, regardless of how strong the community perceives it.

IRatchetI enjoyment is one thing, but there are weapon and style combinations that are either objectively capable of dealing more damage or provide more options overall than other styles. I have a ton of fun with Aerial Greatsword, but that doesn't make it not inferior to Guild/Striker/Adept/Brave Greatsword.

Oh i definitely agree that there will be some weapon/style combo's that are stronger then others (i might have worded my previous comment incorrectly there). I'm just saying if you enjoy playing a certain weapon/style combo play it regardless of how 'powerful' everyone else sees it as.

This is true. But it doesn't really change that some weapon styles are objectively worse. You can enjoy a style all you want, but that doesn't mean it isn't inferior to another. I loved my brief stint with aerial LBG, but that doesn't mean adept wasn't the go to style for like every weapon in MHG bc of how broken it was.

I wouldn't take the community consensus 'with a grain of salt'. *Some weapon combos are flat out better than others. No arguement.* But yeah, play what you want. I'd rather have fun than speedrun personally.

I'm just happy to once again have access to other rapid shots aside from elemental, normal, and spread! That is the one thing I hated about bowguns in MHW, the rapid fire for BG were just pure garbage compared to rapid firing sticky, pierce, blast, bomb ect in older games like MHXX/GU. I'm definitely gonna play both still but MHGU will be my main go to for my MH fix, plus I miss fighting my favorite monsters Lagiacrus, seltas queen, and most of all Nerscylla.

You can rapid fire stickys now in MHW at least, so now its normal pierce spread sticky and elemental RF. Now we just need RF slicing lmao.

One little tip that I want to give to entry level players is that gunner weapons are very fun and very influential on a hunt in the right hands, but it is not recommended you try solo hunts with them unless you know what you are doing. You do lack some of the maneuverability that you would otherwise have with blademaster weapons and if the monster keeps their attention on you, most of your time will be devoted to trying to disengage and get their attention off of you instead of hitting them with your shots. As opposed to blademaster, where you can hold your own up close and weave attacks into your dodging somewhat fluidly. That being said, Valor LBG is good for solo hunts and while I haven't tried alchemy LBG yet, it looks incredibly fun and looks like a great style for a support build (and I do love me some supporting)

There is something I noticed that you forgot to mention about the Valor Style of HBG. Both inside and outside of Valor mode, if you press X immediately or very quickly after a successful Valor evade, you will perform a roll and keep your weapon unsheathed.

I got Generations Ultimate recently, and almost every LBG player I've met (myself included) is running a Pierce LBG set with Hurricane's Gaze (Silverwind Nargacuga LBG's new final form) using Valor or Adept. I personally use the regular Nargacuga LBG, which has 2 slots, making it slightly more versatile. Those two extra slots, combined with an Expert +10 OOO charm, has enabled me to build a set with the following skills: Critical Eye +3 (+30% affinity) Pierce/Pierce Up (+10% damage on Pierce shots) Shot Booster (increases your critical distance) Ammo Saver (randomly makes it so you don't use a unit of ammo when you shoot) Critical Boost (raises the damage of critical hits from +25% to +40%) Both Narga and Silverwind's LBGs have 40% affinity, and have Pierce 1 on Rapid. A team of gunners using these will create a near constant shower of pink sparks from the monster they gang up on, and it is a delight.

HBG is the hit n’ run of gunner weapons because you move slowly when holding it. Quick sheath is a good skill to have.

Coming from world didn't do you any favors either. The controls for them take getting used to and the games each play differently, world is like fighting but regular mh games are more like chess

wow i was told a long time ago the new LBG art was useless, people said it only did abotu as much damage as a Normal lvl 2, a single one, not FIVE of them the part breaker bonus, minor pierce and t he fact its about 5 Normal 2s? i like that alot, the HBG sounds incredibly fun and powerful too

Some weapons are harder to tune for certain styles and are gonna be weaker in those modes at the risk of being too powerful if they were tuned up For example, if they buffed adept IG so the kinsect wouldn't blow all of its stamina, it would, yes, open up more build options, but it would also likely render every other style obsolete and be very powerful in end high rank and G rank.

I'd imagine Striker and Alchemy HBG aren't so bad if you're using a gun with Low recoil and / or crap siege fire options. Like the Viznak Cannon or True Lao-Shan Cannon, for instance.

What I do find really annoying with the quick target mode is the way the analog stick is handled, there is simply no goddamn speed curve, which makes it a pain to aim correctly. There is also a strange movement the target makes right after you've shot when you use the character movement joystick. I vaguely remember a horrible arena quest with LBG in 4U that made me drop the weapon until I tried it again on World where i found it amazing (moving and aiming with it is just so much better, but I can understand the lack of deepness in the technical aspect). I just hope I'll be able to get into using the Bowguns in XX (or even games that will keep using the old bowgun system).

Still trying to learn the HBG from Bow. Really difficult. Valor I can't get into Seige Mode and constantly get hit. I'm trying adept now and hoping it'll be better for me. If it doesn't work out I'll have to use LBG as my secondary but Idk how I'll fair against bigger tougher monsters that I would rather hit hard with. Your videos are helping me a lot though so thanks!

Actually if you do aerial downward shot on LBG it automatically reloads your gun and I believe it still has a side hop you can do after aerial vault. Oh he has changes at the end of the vid well whatever....

Try the claw. It's uncomfortable but you will get used to it Orient your thumb on the joystick, your index finger on the A button and your middle finger on R.

Generally the early game LBGs can fire rapid 1 5 times, and with the skill bonus shot it can fire an extra shot Bonus shot affects all LBGs

Hey Gaijin Hunter I was wanted to make some pellet bowgun sets but I was wondering if there was a difference between pellet 1, 2 and 3 besides the amount of times they hit. Does pellet 3 and 2 have more recoil than 1?

I don’t use them personally but I dont see any difference on paper for them, but more hits directly equates to damage so I would assume you want to run the highest level possible.
